With Kuhns having gone most of the season as the 3rd starter and still having not “come around” the way we hoped, I wonder if AJ Russell becomes that 3rd starter going into the Regional. I’m guessing he does.

Russell got pretty stretched out in Hoover, throwing 78 pitches. Kuhns might be better in middle relief, as well.

I’m thinking the postseason rotation might look like this:

Starters:
Doyle
Phillips
Russell

Bullpen:
Loy
Snead
Kuhns
Franklin
Arvidson
Krenzel
Behnke

Maybe go with Sherman and/or Breedlove if we get desperate.

Also, how’s Tanner Wiggins doing?

I hope that is the starting rotation for the postseason. I think that rotation gives us our best chance of advancing, though I'm still a little worried about Phillips depending on the match-up.

I wish that we had a dependable soft tossing lefty on the roster this year that could have set-up Kuhns similar to Stamos and AJ Causey last year.

Arvidson looked good his last outing

I would imagine Phillips will throw Friday and Doyle Saturday. Sunday will likely be a group effort with the possibility of an IF game in mind on Monday, unless whoever starts is dealing. Or maybe you save Phillips for Sunday and a group effort on Friday?

You go all out to try to win the first 2 in a Regional, so we will see Doyle and Phillips in those two games. Then you sit and watch the other teams go through their pitching in the loser’s bracket. Winning the 1st 2 in a Regional is almost a guarantee to win it.

Agreed, but I think you throw Doyle Saturday no matter what and Phillips Friday night. Hopefully our Sunday staff shows up. Arvidson was super impressive against Texas so hopefully he continues next weekend. Either way, I’m glad to be hosting! GB 🍊

Yeah I just meant it’ll be those two and they won’t go with a “group effort” game in the first two. I could see them starting Doyle/Phillips in either order.

2025 Vols remind me of the Boston Braves in 1948.

“First we’ll use Spahn, then we’ll use Sain,

Then an off day, followed by rain.

Back will come Spahn, followed by Sain,

And followed, we hope, by two days of rain,”

I hope we pitch Phillips on Friday. If we can’t beat a 4-seed with Phillips, then we aren’t going far in the post-season anyway. The likelihood that Doyle has 3 bad outings in a row is low. Put him on Saturday night which is the biggest game of the entire regional.
I would maybe go Phillips/Ardvison on Friday and Doyle on Saturday night as well. Doyle would be amped for a Saturday night game and hopefully dominate a non-conference team.

I'm leaning this way as well.....however....we don't need Doyle to be amped up as bad as he was the last game (it usually shows up with the ball running up & in or up and away). Unless he can harness that "amp-ness" like he did at Ole Miss....THEN...hopefully he's amped up :D . He's such an emotional player it seems to affect his performances sometimes.

His balls tend to run arm side a lot when he’s off.

I’d like to see our bullpen get it going , we have a really talented group but for some reason they’ve had some serious pitch execution problems , they’ve given up way too many 0-2 -1-2 meatballs right down the middle , it’s been a crazy season for us with mistakes piling up all at one time and leading to some big innings , hopefully we can have some guys step up and make a big pitch , big defensive play or big hit

I agree with you. So many 0-2 counts that we didn’t deliver on.

Tony didn’t commit to a pitching plan but indicated this weekend’s rotation probably won’t change. So that would be Doyle Friday and Phillips Saturday.

I would personally go Phillips then Doyle.
Agreed!! If Cincy were to win on Friday they are a tough match up for Phillips.

I thought Doyle became our game 2 guy?
