I was just flipping through Bruce Feldman's blog on ESPN, and came across this little number. I can't copy and paste because it is pay material, but I will paraphrase. This nearly made me sick.

A Georgia fan from Signal Mountain, Tennessee read a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about Boise State OG Tad Miller. Story was Miller's father was serving in Iraq and couldn't make it to Athens to see his son play in the season opener against Georgia, which will probably end up being the most important game of Tad's collegiate career. So this Georgia fan, known as "suthndawg" on a Georgia message board, started a thread to collect the $2,700 it would cost to fly Miller's dad from Iraq to Athens so he could see his son play in the season opener.

Well, turns out this is yet another NCAA violation. By paying for Tad's father to come to Athens, that would make the Georgia fans who wanted to raise money illegal Boise State boosters. They were barred from raising the money to fly Miller's father from Iraq to see the game.

Although as I hear it now, the Miller family raised their own money to fly Miller's father home for the game. Word also has it that the family has been offered parties and places to stay in or near Athens by Georgia fans.

I would like to express my disgust at the NCAA in this and applaud the Georgia fans who tried to lend a helping hand to the Miller family.

*Edited to spell flavors correctly.

I read that too. Completely ridiculous . . . I'd still bet that he mysteriously ends up at the game incognito

Oh, he's going, the family is just going to have to come up with the money though. Still an incredibly nice gesture on part of the UGA fans. Total class.

That's a classy gesture by the UGA fans....For the most part, I would say that UGA probably has some of the classiest fans in the SEC....The NCAA is pathetic

There are some really scary people sitting in the main offices at the NCAA. Some of the reasoning they use tends to boggle the average and above-average mind.

Agreed! The CFA should secede from the NCAA and all of their ignorant and insensitive rules and regulations and start over with a new governing body that has some degree of common sense!!
