NCAA Tournament: Sort of a gamethread

I'm supposed to go out to a pub tonight to drink beer and watch the games, and now I'm paranoid about what crappy options CBS will deliver. Would it be uber-geek of me to take the laptop so I can set it up on the bar and watch what's online, too...?

(Don't care. Gonna do it.)
There's nothing wrong with being uber-geek ... I have a Verizon broadband card for that very purpose. :p

Oh crap, I forgot to use the umlaut when I typed uber-geek. vol1981 is gonna bust me for that, for sure. Damn diacritical marks...

Lack of upsets is worrying me, concerning tomorrow.

Anyone who just filled out their brackets, straight by the numbers is sailing.

yeah spillage on a laptop is not good, thats why one of my friends is now single

It's funny. I got a new laptop three years ago; spilled a beer in the keyboard the first night. No damage.

I got a new laptop two months ago; within two days, I'd sloshed a beer in the keyboard. Again, no damage. Happily both of them were both my own laptops, at least.

Yes, I'm clumsy and yes, I drink too much. :)

In other news ... Kevin Stallings must have hired Chris Lofton for a little one-on-one tutoring. Vandy is 9/17 behind the arc in the first half.

If the bar has DirecTV you can watch all the games in their entirety...I've never been happier to have Directv.

Maybe there'll be a rash of upsets tonight to offset the quiet afternoon.

I did pick Wright State over Pittsburgh somewhere...

You are correct -- if you just picked the higher seeds, you're perfect so far.

My wife was going to do that until I talked her out of it and got her to at least think about her picks a little. I hope she doesn't figure that out...

Good to see GW proving my point about how there was no way they should have been an 11 seed. They were more like 14 material.

What about the point I have heard you make many times throughout the season: that Vandy was terrible?

That's what my girlfriend did and now won't shut up about being perfect

In a purely rational sense, that's probably the best strategy for the standard points-accumulating office-pool framework. If you played the office pool 50 years in a row by just picking the higher seed in every game, with four #1s in the final four every year, over the long run you'd probably do better than the guy in the cube next to you who does his research and makes his picks in the usual way.

The problem is that that's boring.

How does beating a team that finished 3rd in the A10 prove they are any good? Wasn't their last game their second loss of the year to Arkansas, a team that defines mediocrity this year? When Vandy plays a real team, they'll be drummed out of the tourney by double figures.

I hope so. I hate that damn team.

Tennessee should reach the Sweet 16. Long Beach is easily the worst 12 seed. Virginia isn't anything special. I actually wouldn't be shocked if Albany beats them. Either way, Tennessee is better than either of those teams.

For that matter, even if we lost our 2nd game, Monday would be rough, but not as bad as if we lost to LBSU.

Hat, are you at all concerned we will play like we have our last few sec/ncaa tourney games including games last year?

It seems you never hesitate to only look at one game when trying to prove your point about a team. I haven't followed the game for long, but I have recognized quickly that quality or elite teams can lose to talentless nobodys on any given day. This doesn't necessarily make the quality team terrible, or turn the nobodys into somebodys.

Who did Vandy beat this year? Kentucky twice, Florida by 10+, GaTech, UT, and all those other SEC teams that went .500. Sure they had some bad losses but who hasn't? I mean Vandy may not be great and they may get blown off the court by the next good team they face, but I don't see how you could make blanket statements about teams from any one game.
