NCAA Tournament other games thread

At some point each of these coaches was considered the best in college ball. I’m sure each of them hates letting it end with a whimper after Coach K, Bill Self, Jay Wright, and Dan Hurley have all won multiple titles too.

Everyone should want to go out with the championship like Jay Wright.

I don’t think Jay Wright retires if the NIL era never really popped up. He saw the writing on the wall and ended truly on his terms. And judging by his hair, he is living stress free haha

I heard quite a few guest bracketologists on sports talk shows this week, pick Gonzaga to lose early. Said they weren't as good as their seeding.
Their leading scorer, Braden Huff, was also lost for the season due to a dislocated kneecap back in January. Not the same team they were the first half of the season.

You know who I think they make a run at all out?

Calipari.

Reasons:
A blue blood and would drive Kentucky fans crazy if he was to win a title or two.

He would actually improve their recruiting at a school that recruits itself. Landing Cal essentially ensures UNC is landing 5 stars almost annually.

UNC can’t fire Davis and afford to go mid major route or up and comer route. Especially with Scheyer’s start at Duke.

They have to land a whale or moving on from Davis would be a mistake.

Cal has zero loyalty or reason to stay at Arkansas. And he showed in the portal and recruiting the talent will follow him regardless of the school.
It wouldn’t shock me to see UNC go after Mark Byington.

Oh I get it. But I also think him going to another blue blood and winning a title or two just sticks it to Kentucky more than it already is with him getting Arkansas back to good while Pope has Kentucky treading water.

I just think Cal won’t come close to winning or contending for a title at Arkansas. I do think he would be doing that annually at UNC.

He currently has three 4-5 stars committed to him and UNC has a 5 star PG committed. I think he’d have a much easier time filling out the rest of the roster in Chapel Hill over Fayetteville.

Especially with a rabid donor base which he doesn’t have at Arkansas.
You don’t think Arkansas has a rabid donor base or a commitment to basketball? You do know - or maybe you don’t - they have a national title, six Final Fours, and 11 Elite Eights in their history. Top 15 program of all time.

Arkansas has money, no one contests that. But they do not have the donor or fan base that is as desperate as the folks in Chapel Hill are right now.

One would think that UNC is on verge of shutting the program down given how Davis’ tenure has gone + Scheyer’s start at Duke with how those folks are acting right now. It’s pretty hilarious to be honest.

There is no categorical advantage right now that Arkansas has over North Carolina.

Arkansas is a Top 15 program as you said. UNC is arguably Top 3. There is light years difference between the two jobs.

I don’t disagree with Top 5 vs Top 15, but to say Arkansas doesn’t have a rabid donor or fan base is naive. It’s all moot because Calipari isn’t going anywhere.

Arkansas doesn’t have the donor or fan base that is as intense as North Carolina’s…. This isn’t debatable.

Their coaching hires before Cal left Kentucky prove that. Somehow I’m supposed to believe Arkansas’ donor class let Musselman leave for USC solely because his wife didn’t like Fayetteville all while he had them rolling to their best stretch since the mid 90’s…..

I hope ncaa makes a rule change on flops, especially 3 pt shooters taking dives. It’s happening way too often and when a player knows he’s missing he too often flails and falls. Vandy, Ky and Bama are worst in the sec doing it and routinely rewarded.
Make it reviewable and if shown no contact or leg kick, make it a technical foul, personal foul, 2 fts and the ball. I bet it stops or at least slow a down. MSU guard just shot a brick and tried it.
Don’t forget Auburn. They Didn’t make the tournament but they’re final 4 level floppers

Chase Johnston is ridiculous. Not sure how many people are watching the High Point game but the release he had on a catch and shoot three just now was insane. He was already in his shooting motion mid-pass and basically just gave the ball a nudge towards the rim. Almost like his only role was to redirect the pass. Nuts.

Meanwhile #99 on Vandy is flopping like a fish out of water.
