NCAA status of SECE teams

I think what UT really needs is a hot stretch at the end of the season in the SEC tournament.
Make the finals, and they should be in.

Having Lofton out is obviously hurting them along with freshmen learning their role/position.

I think the Vols win at least 5. The SEC Tourney is looking really important at this point. As is the Georgia game. I do think the Vols beat Georgia, though.

I think the danger for TN is not how they fare against the rest of the country as far as record and RPI. What would scare me is how many teams the SEC gets in and how many "bubble" teams from the SEC there are at that point. If there are 8 teams with similar records, who knows what criteria will be used to pick one over the other. Does the committee pick a sub-500 SEC team with a stronger out of conference record over a 9-7 SEC with a crappy out of conference schedule?

There seems to be A LOT of teams across the country as well as the SEC that are going to end up with very similar 19-10ish records come selection time.

My take on where all of the SEC teams are if the bracket was issued tonight:

SECE

Florida (19-2, 6-0), a #1 seed
Kentucky (16-5, 5-2), a #6 seed
Vanderbilt (15-6, 5-2), a #6 seed
UGA (13-6, 5-2), a #9 seed
UT (14-7, 2-4), out
SC (12-7, 2-4), out

I have UT and SC out for the simple reason that they are .333 in conference. If they were .500, they'd be in the bracket in my book, but low seeds. In other words, my feeling right now is that UT is in a position where it must now play its way into the tournament. I don't think SC gets in, barring a huge run.

Interestingly, with that crtieria in mind, NONE of the SECW teams is in because none has a winning conference record right now!

well i do agree that UGA and TN are vying for one of the SEC spots........i think our ooc resume is a bit better than theirs, we need to step up our in conf. resume, obviously. and a good place to start would be by beating them.

we've managed to turn a sure thing in to a very iffy thing at best.

and you got figure tha tBama, LSU and ARK will likely get in from the West...so that's 7. it's not out of the question the SEC could get 8 in. with UGA and TN likely being the ones fighting it out.

Why? You disagree?
disagree likley has nothing to do with it, it probably has more to do with the fact that you're a FL fan and all is rosy in lizardville. the daily reminder about our current situation is not necessarily needed, considering where FL is.......

while i'm sure it's fun for you........some here actually may not think so? i'm just guessing of course........:p

I don't think a discussion of where things stand is "fun" or "not fun." Its just a discussion. Besides, its not like you are out of it. Its just a launching pad for conversation about what you need to do to get where you want to be.

we need to win some games. that's about it. discuss freely.

I tried that before and got blasted for saying I did not think it likely you would beat Florida so what were the other games that are realistic, whereupon for about five pages people just screamed at me.

Ergo I tried this more conference-wide discussion.

As we all know, we have to win all the games were supposed to and maybe win a game not many think is possible outside of VolNation and thats against Florida.

Hey, atleast we have a coach here @ UT that can say he owns Florida as it stands now...

Everyone agrees, but it seems like every other day, there is a new thread repeating the fact that UT is on the bubble. The discussion is repetitious. We're not even halfway through the SEC schedule yet. Let's see where UT is in a week.
