Yesterday was a great win and very encouraging. Matty Moss keeps getting better and better. If she can continue to be efficient, we can pitch her more, taking some of the pressure off Arnold.
We had 12 hits yesterday... though we only scored 3 and one was Gregg's HR. Our offensive production continues to come from 9-4. The dead spots in our lineup cause us to leave too many runners in scoring position. Too frequently, the killer out is Geer. We need her to get it going this weekend. She can clear the bases when she's locked in. We just need her to be locked in.
I agree and I have been on Geer this last half of the year especially. Basically the SEC portion. She just cannot pull the trigger on the across the plate strike. I would like to know how she has done since she missed those games with the concussion. May be related or may not but just curious. The sad part is no one else is hitting well enough to allow us to move Geer down to 7 or 8. I really was glad Seggern attacked the first pitch strike better and actually pulled the ball toward right field. She has power and I went back to previous at bats and she changed her stance yesterday just a little. Matty is hard to beat if she will continue to get that first pitch strike and stay away from the long ball. ATM will be more of a problem than many will think especially the big hefty girl that hit all the HRs against Matty. I think the key will be Arnold for our staff. I truly think and though our regional and super would be the easiest of the whole tourney. looked bad for us until Leach took over and Gregg woke back up. Vines is Vines and I like that as well.JMHO as always!:yahoo::shhh::yahoo:
I'm sure Geer has lost confidence--it is easy to lose confidence in baseball/softball. Even when you're going well, you're making outs 6 or 7 times out of 10. She drove the ball nicely in one at bat in game two against texas a&m, but she is out of kilter. I have to think the book on her is to pitch her outside. Geer is trying to pull everything. You'd think she'd go the other way on the outside pitch, given that she has two teammates directly in front of her in the lineup who are excellent at doing that, and given that you can't be a good hitter otherwise, but she is not trying to drive the outside pitch to right field, or even hit the ball up the middle, as she should. She is struggling to handle low strikes--and when she gets a good pitch down the center of the plate, is missing it. Stop trying to pull everything.
Speaking of the book: If I'm pitching against McSwain, I'm throwing fastballs inside against her mostly. That is a hard pitch for her to handle with her swing. It will be interesting to see how much she plays in this series. I was for starting her and keeping her in the lineup before the regional but not anymore. I think I'd be inclined to platoon Weimer and Bearden now, depending on the opposing pitcher.
Holcomb is hitting around .340, so I'm not sure what Ralph is thinking when he pitch-hits for her. We really need to get good pitching this weekend--and for sure Moss has got to do a better job with Vidales, who has a lot of power and abused her the last time we played them. If we can keep her in check, I like our chances. Or at the very least keep the players who hit before her off the bases. The aggies can hit--but I think our lineup, overall, is better.
The times I've seen her pinch hit for, it's been in situations with runners in a force situation, based loaded, first-and-second. She's more of a slapper, tough to move a runner from second to third, or score from third on balls that stay in the infield.
Just my observations on times I noticed her being pinch hit for.
