Rumors floating are not to good when it comes edited rosters.

Please link people to this thread so I don't have to reply with the same message.

Microsoft is preventing people from sharing files online by banning consoles and corrupting files through their Xbox Live Updates. Many of you know that my NCAA 2007 rosters and my old Xbox 360 were casualties of Microsoft's latest update. Unfortunately, when you upload rosters, your console ID and profile are attached to the file so the author is almost guaranteed to have his console banned.

I have a new (offline) Xbox 360 and I will be editing NCAA 2008 rosters, but my priority is to ensure that people are safe from having their NCAA 2008 rosters corrupted. I am currently working towards resolving this issue with Microsoft, but in the meantime, I cannot guarantee that the Xbox 360 rosters will be available for download.

Here is the problem. There are members of this forum that are placing the cart before the horse -- members that are suggesting to others to buy the Transfer Kit for $20 before we have identified a solution to the console ban issue. I do not want to receive the backlash generated by these posts if I am unable to offer the rosters for download. I still plan on releasing the NCAA 2008 rosters for download, but I am searching for a more viable option than sacrificing my $400 console. The issue is also that Microsoft corrupts the roster file itself which effects everyone that is not aware that they need to resave and rename the roster file.

My suggestion is to mail in your memory card or order a memory card with the rosters already on them. I can guarantee that the rosters will be available using these two methods. Look at the worse case scenario. You could either wait a couple of days to receive your memory card by mail or find out that your Transfer Kit is a $20 jump rope and end up waiting longer because you mailed your memory card in late rather than early.

Microsoft, Its a Darn Shame

I wanted to write a quick blurb on my thoughts about the whole file sharing issue on the XBox 360. In case you do not know the background story, Microsoft is banning people who share files online from doing so and creating quite a stir among honest folks who are just looking to get a set of rosters for a sports game, because those files are being sought after and banned as well. Right now, all indications are leading that if a roster editor is smart, he won't be releasing a public version of his rosters to the public only to have the file traced back to him and have his console tagged and banned.

This is the problem with XBox Live and the control Microsoft can exert over it. Sure, we get an excellent product which does wonders, but the fact that Microsoft is able to do this is a little on the facist side of things anyways. I for one could care less if someone is getting gamesaves to up their gamer score, who really cares about that stuff? I'm sure I could speak for most of America that whoever does care about their gamerscore has a few problems on their hands that involve needing to get a bit of a life. If someone has a 100,000 gamerscore, my first instinct is that the guy must be a pale faced guy living in his parents basement.

I have heard rumblings that several prominent roster creators on the XBox 360 will not be releasing their rosters to the general public because the fear of being outed and then tagged and banned. It's a darn shame that we're talking about this because it all could've been prevented by Microsoft by just using their limitless resources to tag certain types of files from being shared altogether. If they're worried about achievements, why not ban those types of files that give them and not harmless sports gaming roster files? Unfortunately, we're living with the consequences of another corporation taking the easy (aka cheapest) way out. I hope you enjoy HB #6 this year folks. I for one might never buy an XBox console again.

You are correct. They still haven't addressed this issue yet on their forums.

Actually, he explained it quite well... He said he was working with MS to see if they'd fix it to where certain files were allowed for sharing so the rosters could be shared, but he hadnt gotten anywhere yet.

Before it's all said and done, my guess is that MS will somehow pay DT a very nice sum of $ to buy his roster file and then they will offer it for SALE on the marketplace... But hey, that's just me guessing.

No big company is going to be able to make money off selling college players names without having to pay the players for the use of said name which in turn would get them in trouble with the NCAA.

NCAA would throw a hefty fine on DT if he made money off of NCAA players. That's why EA is unable to place players name on the game. They can not profit from college athletes.

I know why EA cant, b/c they are making an officially licensed game... DT, on the other hand, is a private citizen, who simply creates a file, DT does make money off the file... He charges the cost of doing the rosters and receives "donations", and if you want your card back anytime soon, you'll send one (a "donation).

It's MS's quandry that makes me wonder if it will ever happen. They charge "points", not money, so in the event of an issue, they could technically say they placed no monetary value on the roster file, and anyone with sufficient points could buy the file.

It was a thought, I didnt say it WOULD happen, I said its what I had in my head. I have been playing this game since its inception, i understand the rules, same rules that keep them from putting new conference insignias on the uniform if you change conferences... Patented game, certain rules, I get it, but they have been coming closer and closer to finding ways around this, and this may be it.

Well, in this case, it was meant to stress a word, surely the common sense of those reading it isnt THAT minimal...

Now, when you see something like: $@#% YOU!!!

Then, I can see where you might infer anger.

FTR: I wasnt saying $@#% you to you, just using an example.
