??? how is it a matter of pride? He is just eliminating the idea that this is a "dynasty clique" tourney and they are given special treatment. Nothing more, nothing less.

That's not a valid reason not to play. His beef with BB's gameplay was vindicated. From this point forward, there would be zero negative opinions that mattered. If there was a conspiracy, duck and mason would've booted BB out of the gate.
