NCAA 09 Improvements

I would also like it if they added new commentators to the game. Maybe add ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ABC. Great game of the week? ABC gets you. - Two decent MAC teams going at it on Thursday? ESPN2. - Small college? ESPNU takes you on.- They could then have more announcing crews to make things more interesting

Got this from someone on the EA board, which they read.

Some ideas to think about - I know this is a lot but I'm hoping that some of these could be considered (all in Dynasty Mode):

1. More coaching development: Add coaching reputations beyond overall coaching prestige - offense, defense, training, discipline, recruiting, personality, popularity, etc. Add assistant coaches to help with your duties - their reputation would directly influence your players' attributes as well as their interest in your school. Also add progressive coaching goals - become offensive coordinator, head coach, big contract, etc. that would contribute to coaches moving around - leading to my next desire, allowing coaching overhauls on all teams - not just human controlled ones. Allow CPU teams to interview and hire one of your assistants for a head coaching job, or notices that disgruntled/underpaid assistants are looking to leave. Include coaching salaries to offer more of a reason to leave one job for another (other than just to try rebuilding yet another team), and to retain top assistants. Build in a budget that serves as a pool for these salaries, that is built from ticket sales (that you can adjust), alumni donations, consessions, parking, etc. Higher ticket prices may drive fans away and lower your popularity, but winning always keeps the fan's coming back.

something as small and trivial as adding the alternate uniforms would have been good for 08. I always like having the option of changing my teams uni's. Would be interesting seeing all of the 380+ combo's Oregon has at their disposal. I know it's pretty trivial but hopeuflly they bring it back in 09'.

Having the Army All-AMerican game or even the new Under Armour game instead of having to do the entire HS playoff would be good.

As previously mentioned, the custom entrances would be good.

Expanded rosters!! Can we get the whole team on one of these games, just once. All of the new consols have enough space for it. They don't release the game until around July, recruits signed in February and they know what number they are going to be. I hate having to figure out who the new freshmen are because most of the time the number EA has isn't right.

I agree on the coach specific tendancies(i.e. Fulmer=pound the rock, Rich Rod=spread run, June Jones=spread pass) would be good and then they could take that a step further with the recruiting.

As a poster in that EA link says though, Don't count on it. EA has the rights to it all and doesn't have to worry about improvements because there is no other option. They know that a college football game is going to sell no matter what.

yeah, i miss the alternative unis too. i'd love to see all orange back in there as well as some others. i also think it would be cool to see the cpu change up their unis every now and then and come out with something different on when you play them. this wouldn't apply to every team but for teams like florida, clemson, georgia, oregon, etc. it would make things interesting.

It might be cool to incorporate Adidas, Nike, Under Armour, etc into the game. For instance you sign a three year contract with them and they pay you a certain amount based on how well you do. Then you could use that money for stadium upgrades, coaching salaries and the stuff you guys were mentioning. Maybe when you switch from UA to Adidas you have the option to change your jersey and that kind of stuff.

i doubt that would ever be incorporated

That would create a mountain of licensing headaches. The NCAA is weirded out by the tap dance that this game does as it is with the down-loadable rosters and all.

Something along the lines of what JZVol said. It would be cool if you were a small school with not alot of tradition, that if you were to go there and start winning, you could renovate the stadium, add Championship Banners etc...

the ncaa is wierded out by alot of stuff when it comes to the ncaa football series. and it's one of the reasons this game will probably never reach its full potential.

That's the thought process I was going with. Some sort of AD mode where you have to budget your money for coaches salaries, recruiting etc. You could renovate stadiums, make facility upgrades and deal with graduation rates and those type of things.

Personally, I'd like it to be a little easier to build up a mediocre to poor football program. I got tired of taking an average to below average team, putting together several great seasons winning a NC, and still not being able to recruit a 4 or 5 star player.

I liked the challenge of playing as underdog against several teams, but there was no reward for winning at the end of the season. Recruiting comes along and after I win a BCS game or NC, there are still no top 100 guys even remotely interested in coming to my school. I'm doing good just to get one 4 star guy. No matter how many seasons of winning football I played, my school rating never went up.

This is on PS2 by the way. Although I don't forsee myself buying the next release on PS2. It's just too similiar every year.

i've just been real surprised at how much of a step back '08 was in terms of features. the ps2 version had tons of more content and things that make you appreciate the game more(1-aa teams, refs(why they didn't put them in is beyond me), pre and post game shows, more chants, home field advantage, fans leaving the stadium when the game was a blowout). the list goes on and on. then we make the switch to next gen consoles and all this stuff suddenly isn't there. it doesn't make sense. all of that was what made these games so great. it makes me wonder about the future of this series as long as ea continues to unimpress.

you wonder if the lack of competition is the problem.

it makes no sense for them to come out and put everything in at once...it reduces the next years sales. They will add bits and pieces to make sure that you come back again and buy the new one.

there are too many glaring weaknesses to do one or two per year. Some of the new stuff people want is one thing, but basic aspects of the game that keep coming out on previous gen consoles and are being left out on the next-gen is frustrating. IMO it is all about the lack of competition. The capabilities are there for them to have close to the same game that they put out on the older consoles, and can add features from there every couple of years.
