'26 NC QB Faizon Brandon (Tennessee commit)

Says the same guy that said Milton would win the Heisman
What does BOT’s comment about Milton have to do with Underwood’s lack of competition? That’s just an empty ad hominem because you don’t want to address the actual point of what he said.

He’s right. Underwood was always going to start day 1 because Michigan doesn’t have another decent QB. Tennessee will have a guy in GMac who has really impressed so far and will have a year under his belt. His ceiling is extremely high.

There will be an intense competition next season. Brandon may win it. Mac may win it. But it is nothing like Michigan’s situation at QB this year. That was his point and it’s a valid one. Whatever prediction he had for Milton 2 years ago is irrelevant.

thats the risk the loser of the QB comp will leave

I think we have a great problem next year. GMac is going to be really good. He's already shown that once he puts on weight and gets the system down, he's got stud QB written all over him. Incredible arm talent.

But Faizon looks generational. He won't have the experience in the system and the year of learning under his belt.

It will be an epic competition. I just hope that if GMac wins it, Faizon has the patience to wait 2 years until GMac declares for the NFL, the way Manning did with Ewers.

Zero percent chance. Faizon will be the starter next year. He's not sitting for two years.

Will be a good problem to have next year. Merk, GMAC and FB is a hell of a QB room for 2026.
Yep. Absolutely useless to worry about who will sit, transfer, whatever. Get talented QBs on campus and let the best man win the job. Nothing is guaranteed, a kid can be the undisputed guy and still not be happy as we’ve seen. We will be fine under GMac or Faizon— they both have a ton of talent.

Might have to sit one if he doesn’t win the job and take another stab at it in the offseason

He'll win the job. We're not paying him to sit on the bench. In this day and age top recruits like him are the equivalent of 1st round picks. And if you know anything about how the NFL operates, first round picks don't sit on the bench.

The smartest people always speak in absolutes about what will happen in the future.

I'm looking at the money. Tell me the last time a high first round QB in the NFL draft didn't start in Year 1? Mahomes in 2017? And he had a guy playing MVP caliber ball who took his team to the playoffs for several years ahead of him.

College football is now like the NFL due to NIL. Money talks. And when a player is getting paid big bucks he'll be playing. You don't pay a guy millions to sit on the bench.

It’s funny that you want to use the NFL as an analogy when there are college comparisons right in front of you. Because, you see, we’re talking about a college QB in Faizon Brandon. But those don’t fit your argument, so you stretch it to the NFL instead.

Nico Iamaleava was the #1 QB recruit in America and got paid millions as a freshman to be a backup. Same with Arch Manning (the #1 recruit by other services that year). DJ Lagway only started because Mertz got hurt, but he was on the bench before that. Dante Moore. Jackson Arnold. Malachi Nelson. Julian Sayin. All 5* QB recruits who sat as freshmen while getting paid big bucks.

The freshmen who have started (Raiola, Allar, apparently Underwood) did so because there was no better upper class option. The freshmen who sat did so because there was an older QB with ability in his way. So Brandon’s path to start as a true freshman will largely depend on how good GMac is in his 2nd year. Early indications say he’s got a chance to be really good.

Like I said, Brandon very well may start. There may even be a better than 50% chance he starts. But saying there’s a 0% chance he doesn’t start is ridiculous.

Anointing someone starter before arriving is wishful thinking. Is Faizon better than what's in the room now? Let's let time show us. I am very excited about the future. I agree with JT3.

NIL changes everything. Its like thinking a first round NFL QB won't start. If you make a significant financial investment in a player he will play. It'll be on him to prove he can't play. Just like how first round QBs get the chance to start early on whether they deserve it or not. Its only after they prove they're a bust the team moves on.

Times have changed in college football now that players are getting paid. Especially highly regarded five stars who come in as true freshman with seven figure salaries.

I used the NFL because NIL has been exploding so much recently that its made deals made just a few years ago look out of date. Why do you think Nico left us? Because he saw how much other QBs were getting paid this offseason and thought his old contract with us was outdated. What he forgot was he wasn't good enough to demand a pay raise.

Right now the going rate for an elite QB is north of $3 million a year. That's what Bryce Underwood is getting as a true freshman. As the numbers keep going up the demand for a return on investment will get more urgent. What we saw with Nico was the first real big NIL deal and teams didnt know how to handle it. So they moved like they did historically in college football.

As the numbers keep going up they will start to operate more and more like the NFL. With guys like Bryce Underwood who are getting paid top dollar as true freshman being expected to play immediately like 1st round NFL picks. Whether you like it or not college is becoming more and more like the NFL.

The days of stacking positions and going with experience are over. You're gonna see teams being built like we are right now. Lots of young guys being depth. That's the equivalent of undrafted free agents that make up the bulk of NFL rosters. A few upperclassmen and highly regarded freshman being the top line starters. They will get most of the NIL money and thus will be counted on to play. The days of five star freshman sitting are over now that they're getting paid starter money. Look no further than David Sanders.

I get what you are saying but all the 5 stars, other than Manning, who sat on the bench their freshman year transferred after their freshman season. I think if Gmac redshirts this season and wins the job next year it forces Brandon to transfer which sucks but having two prep QB’s is a thing of the past in the age of the transfer portal.

‘23 class 5* QBs:
- Arch sat and didn’t transfer
- Nico sat, didn’t transfer bc of PT
- Moore started 5 games and transferred to sit
- Arnold sat then transferred after losing starting gig
- Nelson has gone from USC to Boise State to UTEP

‘24 class there were only three 5* QBs in the 247 composite. Raiola started, Lagway would’ve been #2 on the depth chart all year and didn’t transfer, and Sayin transferred bc Saban retired. Transferred to sit for a year btw.

‘25 class:
- Underwood will start @ Michigan
- Russell not the starter @ Bama
- St Clair not the starter @ OSU
- Longstreet not the starter @ USC
- Knight not the starter @ AUB

We’ll see who transfers out of those guys.

I guess I forgot to add Nico to the stats 😊. I think best case scenario is to always have a QB with the abilities as Brandon on the bench but with NIL and transfer portal that is going to get harder to do going forward. Obviously there is going the be the Arch and his family who have the best interest of the player in mind but most of these kids have an agent and family who only want what is best for them in mind.
