NBA Playoffs Thread

IDK how much a ball dominant combo guard turns it over for certain. I would guess a combo guard scoring 26 ppg typically has more than 3 topg.

Typically turnovers occur from trying to pass, or trying to drive. Numbers say he's pretty average at taking care of the ball. But he's not racking up assists like an atg pg. So? He plays exactly like a very very good wing, who is a good, but not great passer.

Disagree, because he's a complete game changer. He doesn't play exactly like a very, very good wing. He runs the pick n' roll with the screen happening at 25' and he'll bust in your eye. There is no wing or PG who does this like him, but I would say this is more of a PG thing than a wing thing (Lillard has the best imitation of this skill). This threat is the biggest key to their offense, IMO. He doesn't get all the assists he creates because they score off swing passes when this breaks down the D. The fact that he's so dangerous off screens is just a part of his game.

It's such a tease to have 2-4 games on every day for a few weeks and then suddenly go to 3-day layoffs.

I hate this time of year. Sports are so boring in the summer after NBA ends and before baseball starts getting near the end of their season. At least we have world cup this year.

WE don't have the World Cup. They do.

? Reggie was dangerous just like this coming off screens. Its why he was such an effective offensive player with low assist numbers and barely touching the ball. There are few comparisons to make here, and I don't think points are represented any more than wings at all.

I'm saying Curry does it off the dribble and off screens. He's dribbling and the pick happens at 22-25', Curry's as deep as 25-27', and if neither defender is right on him, he's shooting that. If the big man is the one who steps out, Curry tries to beat you to the basket. This is what I'm saying is the biggest key to their offense. Reggie's value was mostly off ball.

Neither are specific to the point guard position, in any way shape or form. Its also a staple of their offense that has been seen less and less.

(Also, your whole argument was that Steph is so unique because he warps defenses as an OFF BALL POINT GUARD)

The point was in relation to playing with other stars. He's just as dangerous without the ball and that's why he's so good at playing with others.

Russell Westbrook is a guy that can set up the entire offense with a high pick n roll, but he's dog**** without the ball, so it's hard to play him with other stars.

There is talk about Lebron going to Philly, but Simmons isn't good without the ball and Lebron isn't as good without the ball. It's not a good fit. Curry would likely never be the reason another star doesn't fit well into their system.

Or maybe he plays with 2 other guys capable of scoring 25-30 ppg, one of which doesn't need the ball either, and the other capable of running an offense on his own, or being a lethal spot up shooter? Let alone that half his team are very capable passers in their own right.
Without Him healthy, before Durant, GS was able to have limited playoff success. Without the dynamics of the team around him, and how GS has patterned its offense, everything Curry does falls apart and he becomes a great shooter with very good handles and good passing. Still great, but only truly special in one area.

Lebron has played 8 seasons with 2 other guys capable of scoring 25-30 ppg in Cleveland and Miami, and he hasn't been on a 3-20 team. We've seen 3 stars play together quite a bit, but we've only seen 3-20 three times since I've been watching hoops (25 years):

2008 GSW - 22, 20, 20
2017 GSW - 25, 25, 22
2018 GSW - 26, 26, 20

Bosh is not a 25-30 ppg scorer.

Love's been close to 20 ppg with Lebron. Pretty arbitrary to set it at a solid 20+ ppg.

Werent there years with Kemp, Payton, and Schrempf damn close, too?

and I mean, if Payton can average 20+, with two guys a couple tenths of a point from being at 20, does that mean GP was the pioneer of everything amazing about basketball?

I think he played defense every other game or so too, maybe. Dunno.

Because teams didnt score much on that squad.

Even though he was closer to a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio than 2:1...

I think I saw a coyote nibbling on whats left of Wade's knees last thursday, now that I think of it

Lebron's team was close a few years, but the fact of the matter is he had 8 years to try for that mark and they never hit it. The Warriors are 2 for 2. The rest of the league is 1 for 748 the last 25 years.

Not only that, GSW has done it with fewer shots. 51 FGA's and 13.1 FTA's per game for a total of 72.8 ppg this year.

When Love was close, they shot 52.4 FGA's and 16.7 FTA's for a total of 70.6 ppg.

3-20 might be arbitrary, but they did it much better than Cleveland did 3-19.

Its a matter of mere tenths of a point. Its only a relevant statistic as a scroll bar on ESPN.

Would you say Kevin Mchale = Durant?
