NBA Combine

Watched a little at lunch today. McRae's verticals was surprisingly low. He wasn't top 10 among SG's for standing vert and was like 8th or 9th for max vert.

Also on the lane drill he knocked over a cone, then it looked like he got mad and just didn't finish the drill.

Not surprised by the vert at all, figured it would rank poorly

Nik Stauskas beat him in both apparently...

@Ben_Fred: Things learned at NBA combine: Nik Stauskas (29" standing vert, 35.5" max vert) jumps higher than Jordan McRae (27.5", 34.5")

Stauskas is white and a sniper. But he's more athletic than people realize. More of a surprise that McRae is so low rather than Nik being that high imo.

So Stokes has a 7.125 wingspan. I assume that is good for someone 6'7"?

He needs everything inch of that wingspan he can get.

When you're almost 6'6" and have arms the length of someone taller than 7' dunks become easier.

Reminded me of Swiper

Plus factor in being in a game, you're going to get a little extra on your vertical, speed etc. Jerry Rice for example ran a 4.71, yet consistently out ran DBs.

Stokes is the Micheal Sam of the draft. Productive in college but projects poorly at the pro level.

Stokes just lacks 2 inches. His body size and rebound prowess are major positives. From the video, he has a pretty decent jumper.

Interesting. I had to google some Stauskas dunks to check out his athleticism. Not bad. Stauskas is certainly a better pro prospect, but by using your eyes, I still think most would say that McRae is the better pure athlete. Some of his dunks were just nasty.

This is more of a tribute to how impressive Stauskas is more so than a knock on Jordan. That is still a very solid vertical for Jordan.

@DraftExpress: Jarnell Stokes benched press 185 pounds 22 times, 2nd best at the NBA Combine after Patric Young's 25. Johnny O'Bryant 3rd w/19. #SECStrong

Saw where Stokes max vertical was 36", I missed the other vertical. Anyone see that one?

He had a 31 and a 36. Randle of Kentucky had a 29 and a 35.5 Stokes also surprised in the three quarter sprint 3.26 Randle 3.27 McRae came in at 3.39 Stokes was beating some of the point guards in this measurable. I don't know if he will make the top thirty picks but he has certainly given him a chance to be a first rounder.
