I think it is likely we win a NC in the next ten years. My reason being that the SEC is by far the elite conferance. If you win the SEC championship you will be in the hunt for a NC.

We will go undefeated in the fall of 2012, only to have the Mayans be proven correct, thus we will never see another NC. :loco: :p

It's improbable for anyone to win a national championship in any given year. But that's all we know. Nothing more, nothing less. Just because it was forever and a day between our previous two championships doesn't mean its any less likely for us to win one in 2015. It's completely uncorrelated. I mean Florida had never won a national championship before 1996. They've won 3 since. My point is noone knows s**t about what's going to happen in 2012 or 2057.

If we can Dooley and our next AD ponys up and pulls a HC straight down from the NFL, I'll happily retract my prediction and call for a national title within four years of whenever that happens.

Yeah. The Mayans said so. Seriously, are we on the clock? It takes time to build from nothing. I expect UT to have a solid and respectable program for a few years before taking the next step.

it's going to be a long time away IF we do it again. it starts with a great hire at AD, then a great hire at head coach (Dooley might already be that, still waiting to see), then the assistants. and it's going to take a long time. we're going to have to get our name/product out there in a major way. not as a program with tradition and all this pre-2000's riff-raff, but as a program that's building towards a positive future. we're going to have to develop more connections in the recruiting hot-beds. there's a lot more to add to the list.

i'd say that we're about 4-5 GOOD years away from even sniffing the national championship. And by good I mean competing for the SEC and raising eyebrows

Considering the spiraling arms race going on in the SEC among the more powerful programs (LSU, Alabama, Florida), It tends to suggest that unless something drastic happens in recruiting or the landscape of the SEC itself, a national championship is unlikely to happen in the next 5 years. That's not to say that we can't or won't win one in the next 5 years. The current trend of SEC champions going to the national championship game bodes well for us.

Will we win one ever again? Statistically we probably have a better chance of winning a national championship before most teams in cfb. But you never know. It took us nearly 50 years and a miracle fumble to win it in 98. But odds are we will win another national championship someday.

All sports are circumstantial. However, I think UT has the backing for a NC threat in the next decade. We will have our day in the sun again.

I'm the same age and I have thought the exact same thing many times. I loved that title in 98, but like you said, I took it for granted.

anyone making any kind of prediction about 2012 let alone further down the road has no idea what they are talking about...

there are too many variables.. let's just focus on the year we are in

but if we are just going to have wild guesses flying around... then I think Dooley will win an NC before its over

Y'all will win a Southeastern Conference title inside of ten years, and be crowned the National Champions inside of 25, pards. Hell, maybe even both'll happen sooner'n that.
