Too bad we did not get to see the Miss. St. and NC State series. The 2 hottest teams in the tourney. Vandy got what they deserved, embarrassed on the national stage with their " best pitcher in the country "... SMH!

Come on friend. That statement is not based on fact and kind of disrespects one of the best teams to ever play baseball at Tennessee. This team didn't "fold." It got beaten by a couple of excellent baseball teams. Big difference.

Not every good team can win the Natty. And not every team that fails to do so, "folds."
Loss, fold, i thought we would have made a better showing once we got there.

When the chips were down we folded. Always next year.
Not true at all. This team had their backs against the wall many times this year and pulled out several games that were called “must wins” at that particular time. This team achieved great things. It didn’t work out in Omaha, but that can be said for 7 teams that attended. We will be back. This team has paved the way for a new era of tennessee baseball. It’s not easy to change a program to a winning culture like this group did. The foundation is there. This was a special group of kids that did great things, giving hope to a UT fan base starving for a winner, and starving for something to believe in given the times we are living in. I am grateful for what they accomplished and look forward to the future. But fold….they did not.

Well said! One item I would like to add, the 2020 team was poised to be great as well - the damned COVID-19 crap ruined what was perhaps an Omaha UT team from competing a full season. That was a fun group to watch and the 2021 team picked up the mantel and did a GREAT job!

I can't wait for the '22 team!

All about pitching and hot bats. You need both when you need both. If that makes sense....

Really true for MSU. Will Bednar was awesome, and they won every game he pitched and didn't need much offense. Their second starter was awful, and their third was ok. But their offense came through in 2 wins that Bednar didn't pitch.

They were no-hit through 7 innings in game two against UVA and scored 5 late to win.

So beating Va meant no one else had a chance against us?? As Jerry Reed said "when you're hot YOUR HOT! When you're not you're not"! Several teams (MS St most hot) were. - - WE WERE NOT!

Buddy learn how to read. I said I THINK. Vavndy and Texas would of still be tough ones. MSU too but I think we are a flat out better baseball team than MSU despite them winning the Natty. Losing to Virginia was just deflating for the team, especially 6-0

It always comes down to pitching. I thought Tennesse’s pitching staff Was no better than 5th of the 8 teams there. Very good, but didn’t have their best stuff against some great staffs. Just gotta tip your hat when the other team is better. Looked like the final 4 teams had the best staffs. Now I know why Texas was ranked so high all year. Pitching and defense.

Oh bravo kind sir!

This team provided me more entertainment and joy than any sports team in my life. SOB! Was this year fun.

Spot on. We were one of the best 8 in the country, not one of the final four. And that is primarily because we lacked elite pitching, as you say. We had very good pitching, but not elite. Tidwell is potentially elite. If Burns and Leath show up this fall, we just might have an elite staff.

First: I'm not your buddy..
Second: you must have read but didn't understand my response to your position. I did not dispute you in anyway. I agree, I think we were/are a better team over the long haul. However any team can get "hot" at any time and go on a winning tear. We were not and didn't.

I try to stay out of this stuff but you have not been here all year and show up from the football board and probably know nothing about baseball. They left how many runners on base (so they were hitting), they may not have played their best ball but they did show up. When you make it Omaha, you have to be one of the best in the nation and remember, 2 teams have to be 0-2 every year. They were definitely not predicted to be there and got there. Winning it takes either a lot of luck or it is a progression and this year was definitely progress.

With the size and passion of the Tennessee fan base, there will unfortunately always be malcontents for whom the Vols are not allowed to lose any games, even against the very best teams in the nation. However, the vast majority of TN fans are appreciative of all the hard work and dedication that went into a phenomenal season.

Well said! It’s hard to keep quiet when you read statements that are critical yet entirely misinformed and completely inaccurate. This baseball team over performed and gave it their all (and then some). True fans get this. Baseball can be a cruel game with rockets hit right at people, umpires blowing critical game changing calls, or pitches executed to perfection that are hit over the fence.
