Nashville Recommendations

Hey all, I'm going to be headed to Nashville in a couple of weeks for 1) Vanderbilt-Illinois basketball 2) our Vols-Vandy game (I do plan on rocking the orange and a "Thank you Coach Fulmer" sign)
and 3) My Jets knocking off the 10-0 Titans (ummm... maybe)

So anyways I'm sure a lot of you guys either live there, or have made the trip a lot. I hear there are lot of exciting things to do there, vibrant downtown etc. Keep in mind I'm not really a country music fan... do you guys have any must-do and/or must-see places for dinner and to see during the days/nights I'll be there?

Also what is the gameday experience like from your guys perspective at Memorial Gym, at a Vandy football game, and at LP Field? I've heard great things about Memorial, it seems like such a unique and loud place. I know Vandy's football stadium is small and I'm sure for UT-Vandy the stadium is probably 50/50 or so. And I haven't heard much about LP.

Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated, thanks!

THINGS TO DO:
Night Life
On Broadway you have lots to do and lots to see at night time.....
Tootsies,Ripeys,The Stage,The corner Bar a lot of well known Musicians have taken the stage at those places. Lots of tradition their... those are your honky tonk clubs. For a younger crowd on Broadway you have Big Bang which is a dueling piano bar and Paradise Park which is decorated like a trailor park inside (its actually pretty funny looking) and they are always pretty busy.

Nicer looking crowd ranging from the age of 27-40 you need to check out Lime,Virago's, Cabano, the Trace, the Boundry. These places are a little more upscale but great scenery. Usually run into celebrities at those places. And if you want to get real crazy out at Opryland they have a Vegas style night club called FUSE that is really nice on Saturday night.

And if you want to go to a Gentleman's club I would say that Christies would be your best bet.

During the day just go take a walk around downtown 1st avenue where the river is and their are a lot of souvenir shops downtown. I would say like someone else posted check out a Predators game if they are playing on Saturday night. Also go see the Country Music Hall of Fame lots of history their as well. Maybe go out and see the Grand Ol Opry tour at the Ryman Auditorium.

You can still get a decent steak over at the Stockyard. And it's close to downtown (but don't walk it)

I might check it out..i'm not really a night club guy. If I am in east nashville I will be at five points and that's pretty much it.

I was only there once. Little too wild for me, plus its a younger crowd, but man did they party in that place.

Alright next up is parking... I'm gonna be needing some places to park downtown when I go down there and also for the Titans game (I see that you need a pass to park in the stadium lots so I guess downtown by the river is the way to go?)

Can anybody recommend some good safe lots they've used before?

I usually park at a church near the Sommet Center when I go downtown. It is free and never had a problem. Someone else is going to have to help you out for the Titans game :good!:

there is Central Parking throughout downtown...you might pay 10 bucks for an evening

I wouldnt drive to the Titans game. Ask the Mariott they may run a shuttle down to the game I would think.

Also since youre right there you might as well shoot across the street and eat at Amerigo, and goto Blackstone Brewery.

Cool, I'll have to look into that and those places might be some good late night eating.

As far as things to do, I second Hillsboro Village. It's right next to Vandy's campus and there are a few good restaraunts/bars. Bosco's has great microbrew, Sam's is more of a college bar, Jackson's is pretty good.

I also highly second Jack's BBQ. Personally, I like the one on Trinity Lane better than the one on Broadway, but it's more out of the way.

Looked at their web site and it says they dont provide shuttle service. Thats weak, they should at least have a shuttle for games. Most hotels around there have a shuttle service since its so close to the hospital.

The hotel does run a shuttle... I'll have to find out more about it when I get there to see if it's worth doing.

I called them and they said they do... I've had issues with hotel shuttles before so I don't know if I want to rely on it but we'll see.

That place looks pretty cool, I'll have to check it out...

by the way is anyone else going to the MTSU basketball game? I see tickets aren't available yet and UT told me they don't sell away tickets... there shouldn't be any issue getting a ticket when they go on sale Saturday right?

RexVol can help to as he was in the hotel business here for awhile. Enjoy your visit here for sure. Also if you like wings, the best is Knockout Wings on Jefferson. Best around.

The best wings are at Mojo's my friend. AKA Broadway Brewhouse....one by Vandy, one on 2nd, & one on Charlotte.:eek:k:

This is a link from a Titan's board (I know, I know, you are a jets man) on the same subject. The wife of one of the players who recently moved there was asking.

Where Do You Eat Good Food? - TITANSCENTRAL TALK ZONE

Feel free to troll before the game. Kevin Mawae's wife also posts there and she is a big Jets fan. She is looking forward to the game.

Thanks for the link. Kevin was a great player for us, I'm sure she misses New York.

If you are 25 and want some good scenery you need to go down to Music Row on Demonbreun St. Go to Dan McGuiness then Tin Roof after midnight. The Red Door Saloon on Division St. is a nice little dive, too.

Hillsboro Village is a good second option though.

Someone earlier mentioned Hermitage Cafe for that late night breakfast and I would agree. It's the best.
