Hey all, I'm going to be headed to Nashville in a couple of weeks for 1) Vanderbilt-Illinois basketball 2) our Vols-Vandy game (I do plan on rocking the orange and a "Thank you Coach Fulmer" sign)
and 3) My Jets knocking off the 10-0 Titans (ummm... maybe)

So anyways I'm sure a lot of you guys either live there, or have made the trip a lot. I hear there are lot of exciting things to do there, vibrant downtown etc. Keep in mind I'm not really a country music fan... do you guys have any must-do and/or must-see places for dinner and to see during the days/nights I'll be there?

Also what is the gameday experience like from your guys perspective at Memorial Gym, at a Vandy football game, and at LP Field? I've heard great things about Memorial, it seems like such a unique and loud place. I know Vandy's football stadium is small and I'm sure for UT-Vandy the stadium is probably 50/50 or so. And I haven't heard much about LP.

Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated, thanks!

I live in Memphis, but Tootsie's has never disappointed. Ditto that for Robert's next door. Other than that, I'm not much help.

I can tell you for certain, Roberts Western World is the best live bar in Nashville.Tootsies and Legends are great as well. Lower Broadway and Second Avenue is all bars and food establishments. For the lady, The Melting Pot is fabulous for fondue. Its expensive, but she will hug your neck when you get back to the hotel room. Just do some pub crawling. The night, or you, will be gone before you know it. BTW, there is a paper called the Nashville Scene available at most any hotel or eatery. It has a good run-down of all the bars and places to eat. When I am anywhere close to Nashville, I stay at the new Hampton Inn and Suites, behind the Hall of Fame. That gets me to within walking distance of lower Broad so that I can stumble back to hotel in my drunken stupor. On Friday and Saturday night, its a street party.

Plenty to do down town. Zanies is fun if they have someone good there. Flying Saucer is one of my favorites in the down town area.

A Preds game if they have one on a free night for you is a must. I wasnt a hockey fan till I gave in and went to one.

If you like grandma's cooking, the best place to eat in Nashville is Monell's on 6th over in Germantown. They basically set the table, you pass the bowls around, and eat till you bust. I go there about every two weeks or so. Ditto on Zanies. I like the Gersthaus for German food down on Union next to LP Field. If you were ever stationed in Germany and got to drink Weizen beer, well the Gersthaus has got all you want. Makes me feel like I am back in Augsburg and Munich when I get about half shot.

Tootsie's and the Flying Saucer are where it's at.

Lonnie's in Printer's Alley is a dive but I've always had fun there (never carded me).

Rotiers on Elliston Place. One of the absolute best grilled cheesburgers you ever put in your stomach!

Hillsboro village is a great place to hang out and see college students and young professionals alike.

LP field is a fantastic place to tailgate and watch football. Get there early.

Go Titans.

I'll second that. Don't miss it.

You should also check out Loveless Cafe A true Nashville institution.

Don't miss the scene on Lower Broad. Robert's is always on my list when in Nastyville.

You said you don't like country, how about bluegrass? If you're a fan, you should hit up http://www.stationinn.com/ They have live music almost every night and most of it is world class.

Loveless is vastly overrated.

Thanks, I'll be sure to pick that paper up. I'm staying on West End Ave right by the university, should be walkable to the campus but obviously not downtown.

You need to make a stop friday night in Murfreesboro for the UT men's basketball game against MTSU.

I recommend the Flying Saucer for drinks The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium - www.beerknurd.com. The food isn't half bad either.

Memorial Gym is one of the best places I've been to watch a basketball game. 2 thumbs up

I didn't realize UT was in Murfreesboro that night! I may have to check that out... MTSU website says it's about a 45 minute drive?
