NASCAR, Fox look for answers on ratings dip - NASCAR - Yahoo! Sports
I believe I may have part of answer for them. I believe ratings have dropped partly because that casual NASCAR fans are tired of watching an entire race just to see the same handful of drivers make it to victory lane, especially when the one that makes it there the most is despised by most fans. It's been a little better this year, but in 2008 you could almost bet before the race started that after a long race day either Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, or Jimmie Johnson would spray champagne in the winner's circle. Fans just don't want to waste their entire Sunday when they can count on one hand the drivers that will probably win any given race. NASCAR created the COT partly for an increase in competitiveness, but the cream still rises to the top.
