Nascar intends to break the NCAA

NASCAR wanted to suck up all the sponsorships in racing and for awhile, it worked. But they half assed thinking they were indomitable, alienated their core base and didn't do anything to try to gain new fans. Meanwhile they sent the rest of American motorsport into upheaval, and after years of falling all over themselves in incompetence, IndyCar and sportscar racing are growing in popularity, and F1 is as popular as it's ever been in the states, and that's with no American driver, team, or manufacturer to root for. Motorsport is more popular than ever among young people, it's just that NASCAR isn't the one benefitting.

I'd love to see NASCAR go through a split, they deserve it after what they did to IMSA and IndyCar.

Is there an article on this? Any proof they are actually wanting to do this, or just speculation? Reason I ask is because they already race on Saturdays, and Fridays for that matter. Are they wanting to race the cup series on Saturday and Xfinity on Sunday? Wouldn't make much sense imo. Besides they are really only competing for football for like 4 weeks.

NASCAR should worry about staying ahead of WNBA and professional bowling.

Fake News

The Clash tallied 4.28 million viewers on Fox, according to Fox Sports. That’s the largest audience to watch the event since 2016.

The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) scored its most viewed finals since 2017 via domestic broadcast partner Disney, with an average 548,000 viewers tuning in across the four games on ESPN and ABC.

I think the Nascar issue is more about a change in us as people. In the 80s and 90s guys would talk about what was under the hood, horsepower, etc. Today most men don't ever even look under their hood. Not pointing fingers, I grew up working on cars but not what we have today, I don't pop my hood either. People largely are not gear heads so stock car racing lacks broad appeal.

NASCAR will not put a big dent in College football. If you like football better, you will go the the games or watch them on TV. College football will continue to make more and more money with TV contracts and other advertising and donations. If you don't prefer Tennessee football, then go watch cars go around a track. The choice is always yours.

I don't care who makes more money. I enjoy both sports and watch them both. It gets tiresome all of the Nascar haters spewing misinformation. You watch whatever you want. I'm not trying to convince anyone to like Nascar.

Though NASCAR has neglected their primary fan base, I would hope they would not try to compete against college football. The "core" fans probably prefer college to NFL so running against an SEC game would be more detrimental to ratings than against the Titans or Falcons (or whatever game is on in region) game. Plus, running on Saturday nights would hurt the local tracks, something that surely they would want to avoid.
Yep…. The southeastern states will be watching football and recording the race…. IF THAT

The term you’re looking for is Millennial pussification

They're not trying to regain the Southern fanbase. IMO, they intentionally pushed the Southern fanbase out by actively distancing themselves fron the roots of the sport. On top of all their other stupid decisions, now they've gone woke and "woke" and the South don't cohabitate very well.... Thank God.
They're trying hard to get ESPN to pick them up with their woke bs.

There is absolutely nothing even remotely accurate about the statement made by the OP, and there's been SO MUCH wrong information in this thread it's ridiculous. Other than the occasional Saturday night Cup race, they will not be trying to "break the NCAA". As a matter of fact, in recent years, the TV partners (FOX & NBC) have reportedly asked to reduce the Saturday night races because they don't get the rating that Sunday races do.

It's just historics racing, you don't have to settle for youtube. You can go see it live. Hell they had a historics racing event in Downtown Chattanooga last fall and the Mitty at Road Atlanta is the biggest historic race meeting on the East Coast.
Yes... Im not far from Chattanooga... i knew about that one... i couldnt make it ... i had other commitments. My brother in law went... he really enjoyed.
......and sometimes i can see historics drag racing on east valley rd. ;}

with the way they are losing fans, they should just turn BMS into a football stadium again and leave it

Nascar would crumble to nothing up against college football or basketball hell maybe even baseball. I used to watch nascar religiously but now it sucks and I can't even remember the last time I watched a race. I do keep tabs on Chase Elliott because Awesome Bill was my favorite forever, when I met Bill, Chase was alittle guy crazy seeing him now

Went to the Kentucky race in 2019. It was a great experience and it was a night race. Had tickets to go in 2020 but was canceled due to Covid. Now they took Kentucky off the schedule. Trying to figure out which race to go to this season. I'm thinking Bristol or Richmond.

The end of that Xfinity race was more exciting than any CFB playoff game I've seen recently. Can't wait for the 500 tomorrow.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I choose to watch 40 cars turn left over and over instead of college football.

This… much like Boxing or Wrestling the sports are driven by the individuals. The personalities. You love or hate them.

Unlike team sports where generations of fans are loyal to laundry, individuals retire and their fans go with them.

From what I hear, NASCAR doesnt allow for much individuality in their sport anymore. Its gotten very homogenous in an effort to "clean up" its image.

Not really. When I was a kid, Rusty Wallace was my favorite driver because he was my dads favorite driver. Rusty, at that time period, drove for team Penske. It is for that reason that I tend to root for current drivers from team Penske.

1.) The death of Earnhardt
2.) Penalties for aggressive racing…..i.e. the original nascar way! “Rubbins racing”
3.) attempt to be politically correct and dropping long time sponsor Winston!
Agreed

They turned their back on the denographic that made the sport what it was to chase after unsustainable growth. The fans that were flocking to the sport loved the rough and tumble nature of the sport.

Nascar chose to chase the big dollars. They suceeded but at the same time they continually changed the sport from the very thing that made it interesting and attractive.

I’m sure there are exceptions but just looking at this thread alone and there is a lot of “when so-n-so retired I lost interest”.

Despite growing up within 15 minutes of BMS I have never cared about it. Hated Race weekends when the necks would descend in full force. NASCAR fandom was always a condescending joke with me and my friends… even the few that were kinda into it.

There's also a lot of "I haven't watched a race in a decade and never heard of any of the drivers but I somehow know the product sucks."
