A nascar driver you hated back in the day (criteria: Either passed away or retired now)

A current nascar driver on the circuit you can't stand.

Mine
Back in the day: Jeff Gordon. I was a huge Dale Sr. fan and could not stand Jeff Gordon. I hated him with everything I had.

Currently: Kyle Busch. I hate how he adopted the "Rowdy" nickname when in all reality, he isn't anything like Rowdy Burns. He's just a whiny bitch.

This comes from a guy that grew up a Petty fan. Then adopted Harry Gant and rode the #3 train. But I was never a junior fan, I went with Tony Stewart til his retirement and have been a Truex Jr fan since he came on the scene.

Hated: this will date me (54) but I absolutely hated DW. I grew up 30 minutes from Bristol and back in the day it was “Jaws” dominating the race every time I went. It was really because he was so good and I was young and I resented his talent. He was a stud in the sport,dominated. I really learned to like the guy once he started working in the booth. I’ve grown to respect Terry Bradshaw the same way.

Currently: it has to be Hamlin for me. Just something about that guy that rubs me the wrong way. What comes to mind is he fakes it in front of the mic. What I really hate about the guy is he rarely takes ownership for his faults on the track. He always has something/someone else to blame. When you suck

Earned respect for: Kyle Busch, I use to absolutely hate his cocky, brash ,arrogant style but in a lot of and this humanizes him to me. He says what he feels, drives his arse off and puts it all out there. He cuts a promo if he wins or loses and is he classic heel that earns respect. He is one of the most dominant drivers out there. I appreciate his talent. I’m not a fan but I don’t hate it when he wins anymore

Didn't like Jeff Gordon (or Hendrick Motors in general). Couldn't stand Jimmie Johnson (probably because he always won).

I don't like Logano now.

Never liked any of the Bodine brothers. Didn’t like Gordon or Johnson at beginning of their careers, but came around on them later.

Except for Byron, I’m not crazy about any of the current Hendrick drivers but wouldn’t say I strongly dislike them like the others I mentioned before.

3 way tie for hated back in the day. Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin and D Waltrip.

Pretty much exactly this for me.

I used to say out of 43 cars, Jeff Gordon was my 44th choice. He moved up to 43 after Jimmie Johnson came along.
Logano has that whole spoiled brat, I'm better than you vibe going.

When I was a pup, my dad listened to the races. I hated Fred Lorenzen and loved Junior Johnson. When the Wood Brothers hired Cale, I became a fan of the Wood Brothers and have been ever since. Petty became the enemy in the seventies. Now days, I still pull for the Wood Brothers but don't really have any favorites or drivers I hate. I do tend to pull for Chase Elliot when he's in the running for the win but nothing like the days of Foyt and Pearson. Nascar is too cookie cutter these days in my opinion.

Back then. Hated Dale Earnhardt and his redneck fanbase. I was a kid but never understood why they hated a driver (Jeff Gordon) that came in and won a lot. Now those same fans Earnhardt and Gordon fans alike, including myself, appreciated the rivalry and the glory days. The 90s was really and truly NASCAR’s golden age with the Earnhardt-Gordon rivalry. Both are legends of the sport.

Now: Denny Hamlin. Comes across as self entitled and honestly way more likeable than Kyle Busch. And heard from those that work close to him that he’s a complete prick.

Hated Jeff Gordon. Dude won too much. Often at the expense of a fading Dale Earnhardt. When I got back into the sport in the 2010s he was my go-to.

Now it’s sort of a mixed bag of either guys who’ve had dust-ups with my favorites, or I have an issue with their fans. I’d say Michael McDowell, Joey Logano and Kyle Larson.

Same. I wasn't a Dale Sr fan though (keep in mind I was 12 when he died but I definitely remember that day) I was a Rusty fan. But Gordon was whipping them both.

Kyle Busch is the biggest cry baby I've ever seen. Cannot stand him, and I'm going to LMAO when Gibbs gives his grandson his ride.

Gibbs ain't stupid. He'll cut bait if you can't actually drive (Yeley, Suarez, Bubba, Jones, etc*)

*I'll add Logano who has since proven otherwise. I think he was given the ride too early with JGR.

Back in the day I didn’t like Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace or Dale Jarrett. Fast forward to current day, I would pull for those three over any current driver.

I didn’t like Harvick when he was running Busch before taking over the 29. I’d bet he studies karate out of necessity

I pretty much hated every driver except Matt Kenseth. I’m only kidding a little. I started watching his rookie year and stopped when he did. Zero interest in anyone else, lol. I didn’t hate Mark Martin until we were at a Charlotte race and he beat Matt. I hated him that day! 😛

Dale Jarrett always seemed to have a punchable face to me....no rhyme or reason just didn't care for him. Jeff Gordon was too clean cut so he was out. I dont watch near as much as I use to, my least favorite now is NASCAR office. Racing is not as much fun as it use to. The new guys all cry too much.

I wouldn't say I've hated any but Freddy Lorenzen was one I pulled against. I was a Junior Johnson fan at that time. In 67 or 68 I latched onto the Wood Brothers and Petty became the one I rooted against. I've been a Wood Brothers fan since 67/68. It's too bad that people like Leonard Wood will never get to develop and trick out cars in NASCAR anymore. There were some smart dudes back in the day. Smoky Yunick was another great innovator.

I started watching NASCAR in 1984 and got to go to both Bristol races that year.....I was hooked. Back then Bristol only had the concrete stands on the front and back stretch with a small grassy area on the back stretch for blankets and lawn chairs..... absolutely nothing like today!

Sad to say, back in the day, I could not stand Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, or Little E.....not because of the sponsors, car owner, car make, or even the driver themselves, but because of their damn fans. To be honest, I do not know which fan base was the worst. I will now admit, I have changed my position on both Gordon and Little E since both retired. I have come to really like Little E since listening to his pod casts.

I pulled for Kyle Petty. I have ridden motorcycles with him (and Pattie), and can honestly say, Kyle is one Hell of a guy. I just wish he would have been more dominant in NASCAR. And I became an instant Adam Petty fan as soon as he entered NASCAR, but we know how that went. Adam's death devastated the entire Petty family. Adam was to be the King II.

Today, I really do not have a favorite especially since I am a Dodge man. I pull for whoever is in my Pick 6. If I had to choose a favorite, I believe I would pull for Josh Berry. I like the Wood Brothers, will take a Ford, and it's hard not to pull for a Tennessee boy.

As far as my most disliked today, without a doubt, I must say Bubba.....and we all know why.

On a side note, I despise the current cars. When NASCAR took the manufacturers out of the car design and proceeded to create a "true NASCAR," this is when I lost all interest in NASCAR. Believe it or not, I only started watching NASCAR again because of this Volnation pick'em contest.

My favorite number is 21, so I have a soft spot for the Wood Brothers. Loved seeing Bayne (Knoxville kid) in the car. Sad that he has MS but amazing that he was able to race that long with it. (my dad also has MS).

I do like that another TN guy is in the car now.
