I know, it's another Saban guy. But who isn't anymore? My 1 and 2 would be Freeze and Kiffin. Beyond that, with the names we're seeing and probably have a real shot at... It's almost a toss up. Between Napier, Campbell, Fleck, Dykes, and Elliott. Which are all good candidates outside of Eliot and Dykes. Id put Napier and Campbell at 3 a/b.

Here's a good read on Napier. Maybe it's Tennessee he's waiting on?

Why Billy Napier keeps passing up Power 5 jobs

I got a feeling Danny White is going to make an underwhelming hire at UT and will spend the next 3 year hoping and praying it works out. You need a HC that can adjust, be flexible, and able to use what he has. Since Elliot is light on experience I can see him trying to force his system on the players and it not working because we don't have the 5 star talent he's use to having.

What we won’t know until he leaves Clemson is how much of their success he is responsible for. He has been a recruiter, strong position coach, and now play caller. He has a sterling reputation, unlike Pruitt.

The #1 thing we need is someone who can build a new culture. It doesn’t matter if we bring in the wishbone or single wing as our offense. Pruitt was a example of a stubborn, arrogant first time coach. I’m 100% sure White won’t hire another version of that.

Kiffin is also a Saban guy now...
None of them can beat Saban. Including Kiffin.

And that's what has fans uneasy you won't know until he leave Clemson and he's on the Sidelines at UT making horrible decisions then we have to support the bull every Saturday and wait to be put out our misery. I don't blame the fans one bit.

But wouldn't it be fun to see him try
NO. I have been watching inexperienced coaches trying to beat other ream for the last 15 years and they have been very unsuccessful. While I are not sure we can hire a coach who will beat Saban in the next 2 years, I would like to see an experienced coach try it for a few years. That would eliminate one of the excuses for losing. More importantly, I believe Dr. White will hire the best coach available which will be something that has not happened in a long time.

We are in advanced stages of Battered Vol Syndrome. We have been conditioned to expect failure. White has hired 3 football and 3 basketball coaches, including the guy now kicking butt for Alabama basketball. He knows what experience AND personality traits we need. Elliott is a fallback, but white is not about to come here and screw up. This is his big opportunity as well.

I remember when the same thing was said (2014)about former Clemson OC Chad Morris. Everyone said he was responsible for Dabo's success, until his epic fail at Arkansas.

You are one of a few posters on here that actually would say no to fun but that's okay. We all don't need to have fun to exist.

Hiring a new coach over the last few years has not been fun. If this is idea of having fun, drink a lot more moonshine.

Every situation is different. I wouldn't blindly trust it. Neither Buffalo nor UCF is in the condition UT football is in and that's multiplied being in the SEC. Getting a coach to turn around programs in the MAC and AAC vs SEC takes a different skill set. We've already seen that with coaches who do well at mid-majors and struggle in the SEC. Sort of like the CEO of a regional company struggling to have the same success at a multinational corporation it's the same position but requires different skills.

Every AD we have had has wanted to be successful so I don't think he's any different. Hell Currie got a degree from UT. I agree and hope Elliot is a fallback. White joined the UT Athletic organization so with that he has inherited the distrust built up over the years. Sh** don't turn sweet just because he arrived.

This scares me the most. Arkansas hired him as a can’t miss guy. Worst ever! We need a proven head coach more than ever. SURELY DW understands that!

It’s relative. The competition is worse in lower levels, but so are the resources. And given those resources he hired good coaches every time. What’s UTs track record over the last 4 football coaches? 0 for 4. What’s our basketball track record over the past 5 basketball coaches? 2 for 5.

White is the best AD we’ve had since Dickey. And possibly better since this guy can hire a basketball coach too. If we “settle” for Elliott that is more of a reflection on the current situation than on White. Literally no one we hire will make the fan base happy. Neyland had no head coaching experience. Neither did Lombardi. But they won right away because of attention to detail and leadership skills. Our experienced coaches Dooley and Jones still sucked. White knows what will work here. He was hired to resurrect UCF from 0-12. They brought in a first time coach and went 14-0 in 2 years. That may not happen here, but we will be in much better shape in 2 years.

Morris must have a difficult time reaching kids. But maybe he had a better situation at Clemson.
