He was afraid we’d score again. By going for two he would’ve made it a 9 point game. So if we scored it would’ve been 16.

He was trying to keep it at two possessions because he had no confidence in his defense
How did the proposal go?

I get the 16 point argument but then if your sure TN is going to score again what makes you think TN doesn't go for 2 and your right back to 17. If you are confident you won't stop a scoring drive but you have faith you will stop the 2 point try? Still dumb imo.

You’re assuming TN will play conservative and accept 16 because they’re assuming

1. You don’t have time to score twice
2. Your odds of getting both 2pts are low

I will never understand the reasoning of going for 2 after the TD to cut it to 11. Can he count past 10? 9 or 10 its still a 2 score game. No possible excuse. It seemed to me he was just lost at what to do so he panicked and went for more points. If not for that idiotic move, they only need 3 after the on-side kick. Thanks for being dumb! About time shoe is on the other foot.
Reminded me of something ole Butch would do.

Is that the explanation? If we score again and it’s 16, he still loses. Unless he had money on them covering the spread it makes no sense

I never thought about that. It definitely seemed pretty stupid at the time and after the game. Especially after we almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. I think if we ran a regular offense down the stretch we don't make this a nail biter.

No doubt. I think Josh learned here to never take your foot off the gas.

He was the underdog and going for broke!
Unpopular opinion on here but he’s a good coach and will be tough to beat when he gets Mullens mess straightened out.
My thoughts as well. I think he’s going to turn out to be very good.

Napier coached today like I hope Heupel coaches against bama and Georgia. Knew his defense couldn’t stop anyone and played to win the game. Fortunately he doesn’t understand basic math when going for 2 in the 4th quarter trying to make a 11 point game a 9 point game instead of 10 point game.

Napier will not be coaching Power 5-level football for long unless he learns how to manage a football game. Beyond bad.

Most of Napier's moves paid off because they converted what seemed like an historic number of 4th downs from basically anywhere on the field.
