I remember the Clausen hate well and never understood it. The guy was 34-10 as a starter and an astounding 14-1 on the road and my favorite stat was he was undefeated in the Swamp. How many staring QB's for UT can say that??
Man, stop.I had no concerns about Aguilar at all... until I saw that picture. Just sayinView attachment 763329
"Lots of teams trailed by a lot, had lousy lines, etc and didn't get a ton of INTs by the QB." -- Agreed, and good point, but they may have had a QB that was trying to avoid an INT vs taking big chances when it was likely the only way they could win. If JA was consistently throwing INT's that cost them games, don't you think the App St. coaches would have benched him? I'm not defending, just offering a possible reason for the high numbers of INTs. I haven't studied App St. games and determined the reason for the INTs. Bet no one on this site has. We'll just have to see the kid in action. He could be a disaster or he could be the next Baker Mayfield or Diago Pavia. Hoping for the best.Lots of teams trailed by a lot, had lousy lines, etc and didn't get a ton of INTs by the QB.
In the end, it's field vision and decision making by the QB that creates most interceptions. Even if you need to take a shot, taking that shot at your own foot isn't a good choice. Even if you're running for your life, throwing it to the other guys isn't the answer.
Josh Heupel's offense is all about the QB making good decisions with the ball.
I'm also hoping for the best. Joey A had an exceptional year in 23, so no I don't think App State had a better option than to leave him in even after his INT numbers were scary. All QB's are going to make some bad decisions. Hope JA's INTs were mostly due to bad routes and desperation. Wish I had time to review App St. film and make an evaluation, but, I'm 73 years old and have to budget my remaining time!I'm also hoping for the best. My concern is: INTs are usually the result of either bad decisions, bad routes, or desperation.
I've little knowledge of Joey A's decision making nor of how well our WRs will run routes.
That's concerning given Joey A's INT numbers.
Hehehehe. Similar. I'll for sure watch a lot of Joey A's upcoming snaps though. GBO.All QB's are going to make some bad decisions. Hope JA's INTs were mostly due to bad routes and desperation. Enjoyed conversing with you. I enjoy respectful banter. I know I tend to almost always take an optimistic view, and that may be a flaw, but I embrace it. Life's too short to be pessimistic.Hehehehe. Similar. I'll for sure watch a lot of Joey A's upcoming snaps though. GBO.
The season can't get here fast enough.
Rubber Soul is among the best non classical music of that era. Revolver also. Incredibly creative given the recording equipment of that era.Enjoyed conversing with you. I enjoy respectful banter. BTW, like your Beatles avatar. I recently gave all my Beatles vinyl to my son and he's finally accepted them for the great band they were. He loves the White album while my two favs are Rubber Soul and Sgt. Peppers. I never realized how complex their music was until I started playing guitar and couldn't play hardly any Beatles songs. Springsteen songs are simplistic by comparison.
No hate from this curmudgeon for Clausen. One of my favorite QB's of all time. Kid was cool and a baller. Didn't have the arm talent of some of our more celebrated QBs, but I'd be hard pressed to pick anyone else to lead UT in a must win game.I'm aware, I get the same raise.
I don't remember Casey Clausen hate.
Milton did miss a lot of easy passes though.
I do. 03 was my freshman year on campus and the feeling was that Clausen was solid but boring. A lot of people wanted to see James Banks, CJ Leak and even Jim Bob Cooter get into the game just for some more excitement.I'm aware, I get the same raise.

The coaches are high on G-Mac right now...I think Joey is the safety valve for the season so Mac can better learn the offense, We'll see him in some games this season for sure...Merk I had and still have high hopes for but he didn't look the part int he spring game and now he's behind G-Mac on the depth chart.I'd have to disagree. If GMac is the best option, he should start then. I don't see any signs that JA is the best option and I'm sure he's a great guy.

Remember that you are talking to someone that has seen exactly zero practices and is relying on the 15 minutes/day observations of reporters. Never mind what the coaches are seeing. In my humble opinion, if a freshman is our starting QB then we lose a min. of four games. A freshman is just not ready for SEC defenses.
Neither year would be all that relative since he did not have P4 caliber athletes on his side of the ball.So you're gonna just ignore JA's 2024 stats, which are more recent and not very good?

And yeah, we're all Vols here. I've called 9-3. I think we get FL this year and lose to OU at home. I'd love to be wrong about that.
