Where are these guys and are they playing much? These guys in my opinion should at least be challenging for more playing time or possibly starting. I'm sure I'll forget somebody but I just wanted to start the discussion.
- Dillon Bates
- Gavin Bryant
- Elliott Berry
- Drew Richmond
- Dontavious Blair

I'm sure there are others but has anyone else wondered why we aren't playing these guys more?

think about it. Why would a coach whose job is to win games, not play the best players?

Worley could pass, Dobbs can run. Teams have shut Dobbs running down in the second half, and we have no answer because he can't pass. He is okay on short routes but our passing game as a whole isn't anything for teams to worry about. Keep everything on the ground inside like they are doing and we don't have an answer with the pass.

The only one that I want to see play that is currently on the bench has a "Q" in his name. But that's all I'll reveal at this time

I'm afraid the answer is no one is getting coached up and making strides. I think this is the reason he continues to start so many freshman. Zero development.

So true. If we had designed an offense around Worley's strengths instead of his inability to run with the read option or what ever he calls his offense, we might have won more games the last couple years. Dobbs could have learned the game and been more ready this year instead of being thrown into the fire.

Blair was a Juco All-American, pro ready, pro type tackle who was widely scouted and recruited. Does he just not fit our stupid system? Is the line up and knock someone's head off type of lineman (you know, like we saw on the Arkansas side of the line last night)? Instead of the smaller, more mobile, thinking mans lineman that is needed in Butch's system?
Butch promised he would adapt his system to the talent we have, yet he has squandered every bit of it trying to instill his system and sticks the system with every stubborn fiber of his body rather adapt to help his players succeed

As for Richmond, I really don't want to see true Freshmen on the line -- with possible exception if they are complemented by a talented group of upperclassmen who can help them out. I don't think freshmen are typically ready physically and will get beat down and hurt over the course of the season.
Of course, so far this year Florida is proving that theory wrong -- a good coach will build a plan around what talent he has. Too bad Butch didn't take notes on how a first year coach is taking a freshman QB, freshmen linemen and a new system yet winning every game

This is what I see too. Almost no one is ready to play SEC football straight out of high school.... even 5 stars.

What you see is other programs developing talent... We see just the opposite, a player has a break out Freshman year and then they start to regress or just don't get better. Mediocre players stay Mediocre. Five stars look like 4 stars by their sophomore year and 3 stars by their Junior year.

I was just sittin here thinking this very same thing before I saw this thread. You would think any of the players menrioned here would have enough talent to be playing before playing a walk on! I will mention no names.

I thought Bates was going to contend for the mlb spot.... Is he injured? I can't recall even seeing him on the field

It's safe to say Blair is a bust. The others are redshirt freshman and a true freshman. Too early to predict their careers. Bates may still be recovering from injury.

As you guys can tell I worry about the linebackers and offensive line a lot. I seem to remember them saying in the spring that Jancek's had all these good LBs to choose from and he was having problems narrowing it down. My answer is, "Johnny, these last few games have narrowed it down." Jumper ain't the answer. At best, he should be mentoring the more talented players.

On offense, I thought when we signed Blair he was the starting left tackle in waiting. Seriously, why isn't he? Is it him or the coaches or what? They can't make him read his playbook or watch film in down time. The reason I mentioned Richmond is I thought some recruiting analysts saying he could start in his first year. Maybe I'm mistaken there. By all accounts, Boulware has looked good in practice. Where the heck is he? I understand building a program in that you want to redshirt guys. But our O line ain't cutting it right now and we better start a wake up call these next 2 games.

As for other comments about the offense, I agree at this point QD (and maybe even SJ) should legitimately be pushing Dobbs for playing time. I'm not ready to scream "2 QB system" or "QB by committee" but there are several things working against us. First, our line is allowing Dobbs to get pummeled and run over. Second, as much as Dobbs has had to run you have to worry about the hits he's taking and durability. Lastly, he hasn't shown he can consistently sling the ball down the field. The 2 other guys will at least be able to bring a different flavor to the offense. At worst, it would protect Dobbs from injury. At best, it will keep defenses guessing.

Player development is the single biggest issue with this staff. And it seems to be systemic with every position group except for RB. That's the only position group I see any progess from.

How does Jumper see the field before Bates or Bryant? What's the point of recruiting top talent if you can't develop them or let them play?
