My trip to Knoxville

Just returning home after a few days in the mountians of Tennessee and wanted to let you know as a Bama fan I was treated with great respect. As you know there were a few that yelled somethings I was ashamed for my 12 year old and 9 year old to listen to, but over all is was a great time. I was sitting in the Bama section next to the band, but on the end so I had some good conversation with some older UT fans. They stuck around until after the game and we remembered the old days. They said they have had season tickets up there for 45 years and as this older man said, " Our program is like the economy, it goes up and then down, but we always rebound." I told him that I completely understand and assured him UT would be back soon.

Anyway, great time and thanks for letting my kids experience a Bama/UT game on the hill for the first time.

I am glad you had a positive experience with some of our classier fans. That said, I hope you enjoy your future trips to Neyland way less (WRT score). :)

I not glad you enjoyed the game as much as you did but am glad to hear your experiences overall were positive. See ya next year.

Come back anytime you can. Your class is appreciated. Sorry for the language with your kids there. Unfortunately, I have experienced that when my kids were younger. Some people could care less, which is unfortunate. Good luck the rest of the way.

Not trying to be a wise ass here, but I've been to a fair share of college football games and can't remember one where a someone didn't jump up and cuss or get wild a little bit.

I mean, shouldn't that pretty much be a given in bringin 9 and 12 year olds to a game?

Yes, it definitely is a given at a game that it will happen. However, I have had grown men right behind me with my 5-year-old son in plain view, and hearing so many four letter words, it would make your head spin. It would be nice if those folks would have a little couth when they know there are kids close by.

I was not offended in the stadium because the people I was close respected my family and the other kids that were close. It was while we were leaving that the few UT fans thought it would be nice to talk about my mother and me doing something to my dog. And I should be able to go places without the fear of someone offended me, even to Knoxville.

Sorry you had to hear that. Also am sorry everybody had to hear that classless yellow hammer cheer at the end of the game. Did you participate in that?

No I do not. First of several reasons, I am a Christian and do not participate in stuff like that. Second, I try to teach my kids that winning is more than just the score on the board, it is something you carry with you forever. I know you do not like to hear about the Bear, but one of his favorite sayings is 'Act like you been there before." I know he meant when you score, but we need to act like we have one before. I know that is more than you wanted, but that is my answer.

Its a football game. It is going to happen no matter where you are at.

who cares? so what if an idiot cussed in front of your kids. they're everywhere.

i'm sure there's going to be a hell of a lot worse things they're about to hear as they get older.

Doozer you are one of a kind, well maybe not. It was not the point of the cussing it was where and how. My kids know all about stuff like this. We were a good 1/2 mile from the stadium minding our own business and these guys do this. My post was to thank you for a good weekend except for a few as I mentioned are everywhere, but let me guess you were drunk and about 1/2 mile from the stadium saturday night.

You are in Knoxville, East TN for Pete's sake, on Game Day, with Alabama gear on (I assume). 1/2 mile away from stadium means nothing.

I've been to many away venues, including Tuscaloosa and Birmingham for Alabama games. Some were with my young son (at the time), and have been cursed within Legion Field and Bryant-Denny with my son by my side. It happens anywhere you go and is the risk you take when attending away games. But don't act like that it's exclusive to Knoxville. It's unfortunate, but it's just the way it is when alcohol, football, and testosterone is mixed.

i was actually out of town this weekend.

again, consider your location and the circumstances. there are idiots all across this world. the only way to avoid them is to stay home.
