Condrege Holloway coming back from the hospital to rally vs UCLA.

1959, "The Stop", stuffing LSU's Billy Cannon at the goal line.

Billy Ratliffe making up his mind that UT WOULD get the ball back and making it happen.

1998 vs Arky. I missed the fumble because I had stormed off to the bedroom to throw something.

This goes way back to Richmond Flowers playing when he knew his father was either going to jail or under indictment for spurious charges. I thought Flowers was always a class VOL.

There have been a lot of gutsy players and games. Harrell in the fla 06 game comes to mind, still one of my favorite VOLS, epitomizes the "Today I will give My All for Tennessee."

GO VOLS

First thing that came to my mind.

Is it football time in Tennessee, yet? :hmm:

One player takes over a game, and wills his team to the victory. These are my three favorites:

What about you all?

GO VOLS!

Chuck Webb 293 yrs vs Ole Miss

Dale Jones interception vs Alabama after Tony Robinson broke his leg. He preserved that win.

I also love the 85 Sugar vols win over Miami.

I believe Jason Mitchell played pretty much the entire 2005 season with a partially torn ACL. He played well, too. I was impressed by how Jason Allen vowed to come back stronger and faster after his devastating injury and then delivered with his NFL workouts. Inky Johnson's attitude and lack of self-pity are evidence of guts.

Ratliffe's whole 1998 season was gutsy. He suffered from some bad knee injuries/ pain and just played through them.

2. Rick Clausen vs. LSU, 2005 - I was ready to jump off a bridge after the 21-0 implosion topped off by "the heave"... The comeback led by the LSU castaway was nothing short of miraculous. Talk about a rollercoaster ride. That game was epic, with the whole Katrina situation hovering overhead.

I was in 7th grade when this game happened. I was so upset at halftime that i basically cried myself to sleep. My dad came rushing into my room, yelling and screaming, telling me to wake up and come watch the overtime. I thought he was playing so I was getting mad at him and I went into my parents room and it REALLY was overtime. I had never been so happy before in my entire life. Granted I was 12, but still. I'll NEVER forget that feeling though. Same feeling I had watching Wilhoit's kick sail through the uprights against florida.

2006 California game
This game set the tempo for a good season for the Vols. Not only that, but it solved the question on everyone's mind. Everyone wondered how Erik Ainge would do after the 2005 disaster that possibly destroyed his mind.
Ainge had different ideas, though. He went out and threw 4 touchdowns, and at the very same time, quelled any initial fears that Vol fans would have for that year.

I will break it down to the gutsiest play: Clausen hitting Chris Hannon ( or maybe Fayton?) on 4th and 18 vs Alabama in 2003 I believe..

It definitely wasn't Hannon. I think you're right on Fayton, though.

It was CJ Fayton

As much as I want to say Rick Clausen in the 05' game. I'm going to give that award to Gerald Riggs Jr in the 05' game. He came alive in the 4th quarter and OT. Honorable mention to J. Wade, he got the pick that started our rally.

Overall, I'd say Harrel in 06 against Florida.

I'd give Honorable Mention to Eric Berry almost single handly beating South Carolina in 07 as well...

Jason Mitchell playing half his SR. year with a torn ACL is by far the winner. Remember, this kid was a good combine away from getting drafted and making an NFL roster. "I will give my all for Tennessee," and not the pro dollars.

Tony Robinson playing entire games on an 8-ball is fairly impressive as well.

Actually, I think it was Hefney that picked it off and returned it to the one yard line. Hell of a game.

2007 Outback Bowl. Ainge went 25/43 with 365 yds and 2 tds in his final game as a Vol to beat Wiscy 21-17. The one thing that always sticks out for me from that game, though, is the interception with about 43 seconds left to seal the W. The best part about being at that game for me: My buddy that was with me was a Gator fan, whom I forced to wear UT gear, and by the end of the game he was singing Rocky Top.

Chuck Webb's 294 yards rushing against Mississippi in 1989.
Bill Duff's 4th down goal line tackle of Eddie George in the Citrus Bowl, 1996.[/QUOTE]

That was a good one. Wasn't that Heisman back running behind Outland tackle Pace?

lol @ no Casey Clausen mentions

um.....

How about Clausen leading us to something like five OT win against Ark. with a fractured clavicle. I forget the exact yr.

I think it was a dislocated shoulder, but yeah. That was awesome. It happened in the 2nd OT I think, and he never went and talked to the coaches when the D was on the field because he thought they would take him out. Clausen was double tough.

I can't believe no one mentioned this earlier. This was the first one I thought of.

It was a fractured clavicle (collarbone). I was at the game (met Casey, Jimmy, and their parents during that game's Vol Walk). The game was in 2002. That was the most gutsy football peformance IMO.

That's a good one! Also Clausen's 4-5 OT game win against Bama too!

I will break it down to the gutsiest play: Clausen hitting Chris Hannon ( or maybe Fayton?) on 4th and 18 vs Alabama in 2003 I believe..

which clausen did you think they were talking about?
