  • Yeah it was just Xavier, but what a great win on the road! This will be a "seed-determining" win.
  • I'm starting to wonder if every team we play has a "lock-down" guard on Lofton or if Lofton has lost it.
  • Nothing like struggling on offense and then coming out with a alley-oop reverse dunk play with Prince and Tyler.
  • Take the good and the bad with Ramar Smith, he's an incredible talent and shows that he is tough as a coffin nail. Going after the loose ball at the end of the game shows his true character
  • During the game, I thought a lot of the fouls on Tennessee were bs, after the replay, they were ok calls.
  • The technical foul on Pearl was solely a result of a ref wanting to show up that "hot shot" coach, nothing more.
  • Notice the make-up call 2 minutes later with a phantom offensive charge on X.
  • Ref's were horribly inconsistent on the carrying calls and 5 second calls, apparently X doesn't do either.
  • JP Prince could be special if this becomes a regular thing. His in the air body control is fantastic.
  • I finally started to see some actual plays by Pearl on the offensive side
  • Anyone notice Ramar getting yelled at by Pearl and Ramar tapping Pearl on the back of the head with a gesture of "yeah, you're right coach". I believe there is a sincere level of respect by both the players and coaches here.
  • Nice attempt at a zone for 3 minutes.
There ya go

Some selected comments:
I was sitting near the top. It seemed like whenever Lofton drove the lane, he'd get bumped or hacked and not get a call.
Pearl's technical shouldn't have been called in that situation.
I remember a charge on X being called rather late.
I saw Ramar tap Pearl and thought the same thing.

The announcers even mentioned that. It's good that the players listen to Pearl even when he is ripping them a new one, as opposed to rolling their eyes and heading back to the bench.

Yeah, I noticed that one while at the game. He really laid into him after that carry...and Ramar responded well.

The NCAA said that refs were going to start calling offensive language and crossing the coaching line more. I think it was just one time they were enforcing it.

The problem with the crossing the coaches box thing is.... he wasn't even talking to the refs (or yelling at them as Xavier's coach was) he was trying to tell the team a defensive set. That's the problem.

Early in the game, Xavier's coach received a "coach's box warning" from the official and later got a technical in the 2nd half. Where was Pearl's "warning?"

The PA announcer announced Pearl's warning at the end of some other long-winded announcement he made, so it was easy to miss ... but the announcement came a few minutes after the actual warning. I thought I noticed the referee go over, talk to Pearl, and point at the line. It was a few minutes after that when I heard the announcement.

The problem I have with the tech is that the ref was paying more attention to Pearl than the actual game. He was itching to call it.

Another thing, how about giving the bench a little more room if this is such a big problem. Pearl and other high energy coaches move around a lot...why not give them some more room. like he said in his post game interview, he isn't going to change his coaching style.

Maybe they could put a shock collar around the head coaches to train them from going outside of the box or everytime they say a cuss word. Sure it would be over the top, but can you imagine how much fun it would be to see Coach Krizewski at Duke wince in pain every 2 seconds?

:lolabove:

By the end of the game, there would be a foul odor in the arena from the stench of Pearl's singed hair.

Pearl got a warning - I remember everyone but a few clad in orange applauding.

edit: sorry, should have read below....covered already.

Am I just old school or does it seem the team is playing "street ball"???

Last year we got into sets and the team played well on both ends. I know we are more talented this year but it seems they run up and down the floor and fire threes at will. Yesterday Chism fired a long one off the break. I don't think X could have played with us if we had slowed the pace and kicked it inside, they couldn't match up in the paint IMO.

Maybe being in my 40s I'm just old school

It looks like street ball and is real close to street ball, but it isn't... I do think it has gotten a lot better, but again it is or has been a lack of chemistry... The Chemistry is beginning to Gel... The other thing that makes it look like Street Ball, is that we have been going through an identity crisis and role clarity on the team... Pearl is getting through to these kids and it shows with C Lofton the most... He is continuing to reduce the number of shots he is taking and roles are being defined by the players and Pearl. I would look to one person having a hot hand every time we play because this team is hard to match up against... The best is yet to come.
