Schiano : PSU stuff aside, his history of player treatment at TB including the kneel down incidents against various teams. His only competition at Rutgers was WVU and Louisville for a short time. Glad it's not happening. I, like some thought this was a smokescreen like everyone else but this REALLY almost happened!

Next coach: if it's not Gruden, who knows at this point, go ask Lane. Everyone deserves a second chance. Being and still living in Louisville Bobby Petrino has changed. And before you say it, I'm well aware of the basketball issue here. I believe Lane has grown more and would want another shot and was just following his dreams. After seeing his tweet with Crompton and Hardesty shows his players enjoyed him and respected him and he was only here for a year.

In closing, fire Currie! Also, I'm glad to see the little people's voice heard. Our last name may not be Haslem, but we contribute cash to UT also. I had season tickets living here in Louisville. As I stated in one post about fans controlling a hire, try having a home field advantage with 102,455 empty seats! Minus the band, dance team and visiting fans. Good job today Volnation! Like you I've been at this all day since my ESPN alert went off earlier announcing the hire.

God Bless

I'm not as informed as much as others...
I don't contribute as much as others...
This doesn't effect my pocket book as much as others...
I can't travel to as many games (350+ miles, so only 4 this year) as others...

...but I've worn Orange for at least 45 of my 56 years and both parents before that.

we (et.al.) should have a voice, and it seems that we may have that voice, due to those of you that are in tune with what is going on.

For that I say to you ; THANKS!

p.s. I don't know who we need...as HC or AD, but I'll see you next fall at Neyland Stadium.

I am not defending Schiano and do not know what happened at Penn State many years ago. There are reports and denials about what Schiano did and did not know. I don’t think the fan outrage about the hire was entirely about enabling a pedophile. A lot of fans were tired of another mediocre status quo coach. The fan base wanted a Gruden/Petersen type of hire to bring Tennessee football back to the forefront. I think fans are very frustrated after the worst season in UT football history and instead of having a top tier coach to excite the fan base, they get Schiano. Fans are sick of losing and the Sandusky scandal added fuel to the fire.

That's my thoughts exactly. That's why I said PSU stuff aside

Fair enough. It was only 25 years ago, and we don't know exactly what happened, but.......

That’s exactly the fekking point. We don’t know what happened. You’ve been on your moral soap-box in just about every thread I’ve seen on Schiano.

We don’t know what happened, you say. That in and of itself should have been reason enough to steer clear of this guy. He is tainted with the PSU/Sandusky association. As such, before you hire someone with that kind of baggage it should be crystal clear that he knew nothing, saw nothing, suspected nothing, and was never mentioned in court documents that in any way cast the least shadow on his character.

“We don’t know what happened” isn’t anywhere near good enough. And “Everybody deserves a second chance” is a flawed argument as well. This program has fallen so far that it can’t afford to risk a second chance on a guy with this kind of baggage.

Even leaving the Sandusky crap aside, Schiano was well-documented to be a complete ass, with proven episodes of undermining players and assistants while at Tampa.

And as far as coaching, Rutgers played basically no one in the old big east, Schiano had a career 68-67 while there and got beat by Butch Jones when he was at Cincinnati. What about any of this makes this guy better than a Brohm or a Campbell or a Frost?

He’s a poor candidate that should never have been considered.

To be honest, everyone hoped for a slam-dunk hire, but no one with any common sense really expected it to happen...the UTAD has repeatedly shown its incompetence again and again.

If Schiano didn’t have the baggage he has, there would have been nowhere near the backlash. Sure, there’d have been a few delusional Grudenites who would have been upset, but the most you would have heard most complain about is “business as usual” from the incompetent AD.

If we’re going to be forced to settle for a second or third candidate, we at least shouldn’t have to settle for one who has even the suspicion of moral cowardice hanging over him.
