My thoughts about the game

I agree with number 1, 6, 7, and 8 especially.

Our defense looks like it's got something in the oven. Not sure what it's cooking up exactly, but it sure smells good. Sprinkle in more talent, more depth, and I think we may see some impressive defensive units in the future.

On offense it's easy right now to point at Helton, I guess, but to me the truth is he's like one of those chefs working with whatever's in the Chopped basket. Hopefully we see more regular production by the end of the year.

I was proud of our team today. GA is loaded with talent and we matched up well in many ways.

Our guys played hard start to finish on both sides of the ball.

The D is improving each week and played well enough to win this game. It’s a shame they were on the field so much. That fumble we lost late killed me and made our D look bad. If I remember correctly our D made GA lay 3-4 balls on the ground, and we came close to two INTs. Now if they can just follow through and cover the ball, we have a game changer.

The Oline was improved but still far below average in the conference. If they can stay healthy we could be decent by the last 4 games. Our TE and RB also need to get better at protecting the QB. JG did roll out several times but it didn’t buy him any time as GA was still on him in a flash.

How about those SEC officials. Right on top of things. I have play enough sports to not whine about officiating taking the game, but the SEC officials are just bad. I see penalties occur right in front of the ball carrier and they are ignored.
Two that come to mind, targeting against Calloway and GA’s last TD, holding the DB. The TN DB’s Jersey was stretched out about a foot where the GA player was tugging on it, just as the GA ball carrier runs around him. Am sure you can find many more bad calls/no calls aginst both teams.

Today I think we saw the culture shift away from the legacy of Botch and put a foot in the Pruitt camp. If the worst season in Vol history wasn't enough the first four games of this season were enough to demonstrate the destructiveness of hiring a band camp leader as your head football coach. The boys have been playing OVC football for years with only Josh Dobbs elite ability able to make TDs. We're seeing signs that Pruitt is trying to bring them back into the SEC and we saw today that some of the boys are beginning to like being back in the SEC again.

It sucks but this is what Hambone and Herman Munster gave us as fans: If we can spoil KY season now that's going to be a signature win and point to good things on the horizon. And I think this team can.

An outsider's view. I was impressed with how well and how hard UT played until the end. All you can ask is that they play to the extent of their ability and fight to the end. I think they did that.

On Helton, I don't believe he suddenly forgot how to coach. I think he called plays based upon his opinion of what his players could do.

Finally, I think Pruitt is the real deal. All he needs is a couple of recruiting classes to be successful.

Good luck the rest of the way.
