My thought on what to do now

So? We've got some other Championships that were awarded after undefeated seasons. Why should we retroactively diminish the achievements of those guys?

Because those titles are a farce. We didn't win a national championship those years.

Tennessee won a Litkenhous national championship in 1967, which is recognized by the NCAA. So, yes, we can claim it if we like.
Funny story about that team. Back in 2004 they found out that the team received rings for finishing 1st in the SEC East. They banded together and forced the AD to buy rings for the '67 National Championship team.

That's ridiculous. Litkenhous is just like AP, UPI, USA Today, ESPN, Coaches, the BCS, the Bowl Coalition and any number of other organizations that the NCAA has recognized at one time or another as
an official means of determining the mythical national championship.

And I would agree with that. But I don't think it's any coincidence that the decline of the program parallels the emergence of programs like Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, USC, Ohio State, etc., all located in our recruiting hotspots during our most successful era. It's a lot harder to recruit those places now. So perhaps a new approach is needed whether that be a new approach in recruiting strategies, new schemes, whatever.

Ohio State is a division 2 coach Masqurading as a D1 coach, He has yet to win a big game and dont even bring up the Miami NC game because Miami handed them the crystal and a trip to Disney World. But the other programs didnt have coaches that hung on based on the glory of winning 1 NC they also won ther conference a few more times also. And they knew when to step down, and not let there pride get in the way!!

Or maybe he sees them in practice everyday and knows more about who should be playing than you.

My God, everyone on this message board is a coach.

Yes, because our coaching staff is doing a stellar job at "working like heck" to get better. Look at the positives, only two short weeks ago they sqeaked out a big win against powerhouse N. Illinois.

Tressel deserves credit for even hanging within a couple of scores of that Miami team. Also, those Canes murdered UT earlier in the season.

i miss the old days where we had a primary running back carry the ball 20 times a game.
Me too. I miss a real offense, when we dictated what we would do to folks. Gimmicks and trickery have there place, but we seem to do those things at absolutely the wrong time, most of the time.

The wheels have come off the wagon.

I'd trade our coach for that D2 coach in a heartbeat.

That's the team Tressel inherited. Since then they've gone to 5 BCS bowls and won 3 of them.

No, "the senator" would be just a successful as cpf in his position. They are actually alike. They are both coaching when their respective conference is down. The difference is Fulmer actually did win the big ones. Not that I like Fulmer, I just see Ohio State taking advantage of a pretty weak schedule. I seriously think UT could have beaten ohio state one of the previous two seasons.

True, but their only respectable win came against Miami. The others were Kansas St. and Notre Dame (lost what 10 bowls in a row?)

Notre Dame ripped UT to shreds that year and almost beat USC. I'm not saying they were great, but OSU beating them was at least a little impressive.

Yea, that happens around here if you don't encourage forming a lynch mob around Phil's house.

Well they schedualed us in 10 and 11 so thats 2 easy wins they should just give us the W to put in our game books,,HA OHNO STATE WHAT LOSERS IN A LOSER CONFERENCE, Thats why Pryor went there cause he knew he was not good enough to play for JOE PA. An if Cut would have stayed and he would have came here, we would get to see his lame duck play here, Hes not a stud and he is not a sunday player, you will see............

I think this board is great to let off steam and voice opinions (and we know about opinions). I also know as a Vol financial contributor that we have a right to voice our opinions until our constitutional right is taken away ( which is real close).Myself I went to the Nor. Ill game and plan on coming to the Miss St game and that will be it for me, and I'm a season ticket holder. Fulmer was good in his prime ( See Decade Of Dominance video) but his time has come. Need new motivation and new blood to get back on track. We highly recruit every year and should let some of these underclassmen get a chance to show there talent. Look what it's done for other schools. Anyway, I still bleed Orange!!!!
