My take on the Cal game

cuz you guys keep talking about firing the coach......get rid of CFP, that will save the day.....I was just saying we didn't do that bad, we got beat but we can play with anyone........We did not do that badly....made some mistakes yes......they have been noted.....tackling, been noted.......D line has all the potential in the world......2007 Tennessee Vols are gonna be just fine

The Dline has potential, but so far they have looked like Tenns worst Dline in 15 years.

Most of us agree with you man. I say most hesitantly. But there are like 15 other threads you could have posted this in. Just repetitive. I am with ya though.

That was our average team. And we showed that the PAC 10's speed can compete and beat the size of the SEC. So
PAC 10- 1
SEC- 0
Uh... It's one-all, if I remember correctly. And to me (I live in Portland, so I watch way more Pac-10 ball than anybody else on here. Guaranteed) Saturday was Jeff Tedford's best-ever performance as a head coach. Better than beating USC in 3OT. He was starting to gain a rep as being a big-game choker. Instead, he used last year's embarassment as a way to focus Cal's offense into putting on a clinic against the Vols. That's what great coaches can do.

I have lurked here a while but will post now. I've watched UT football since I attended Bill Battles football camp in 1975. My son attends UT.UT is now in exactly the same perdicament the UK basketball program was in last year. Nice guy, good citizen, doesn't break the rules, won a National title nearly a decade ago, and RUNNING a proud program straight into the ground. Fulmer is past it and just like Tubby Smith, seems unwilling or incapable of making the changes necessary to turn things around. I hope you guys can muster the cutzpah to do whats necessary, the SEC needs a strong UT, I'm sick of watching those lizards dominate the league. My heart goes out to you, I KNOW what it's like watching a great program slide into mediocrity.
Fantastic comparison. Welcome to the board.

Tubby won SEC championships after his national title.
It's not like the SEC is always to basketball as it is to football... Like the others said anyhow, they want Final Fours.

Regarding ksushalovesthevols comments, The student section was chanting PAC 10 football directly after the play that Xavier Mitchell was hurt. But as people realized the seriousness of the injury they stopped and applauded for him as he was carted off the field. Regarding the Sec and Pac 10, the top Pac 10 teams CAL, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Arizona State, and (some years Oregon State), can compete with the top SEC teams. However The SEC's lower ranked teams are far better than the PAC 10's lower teams. But I think your way off saying that SC is the only quality team, If Cal played you guys again in Knoxville this year, I guarantee it would have been different than last year. Last year the Tennessee game was the first game for a majority of our secondary, and you should know that you can't put a group of young kids on Meachem and expect sucess. And all of you keep saying Cal played above themselves. Are Defense looked terrible, and our offense was on par, Forsett had an average game (160 yards) and Longshore had a few bad series, along with a fewgreatones

The same can be said of Tennessee this year. You can't put a brand new defense against the likes of Cal receivers and expect success. We probably wouldn't lose in Knoxville this year though, because you wouldn't be able to hear anything at the snap. Memorial Stadium, on its best day, doesn't rival Neyland, even when we're playing against Vandy.

I'm so friggin tired of Cal fans saying they didn't see Xavier Mitchell was down when they were cheering "PAC-10 FOOTBALL" at the tops of their lungs! I happen to have been sitting between the student section and the end zone where the player was down and saw perfectly well that there was an injured player.

Honestly, I don't know how they can even say they didn't know what was going on. Mitchell was down for at least 3 minutes when they began shouting, and the whole medical ordeal lasted almost 10. There were stretchers and medical personnel well within view on the field, all huddled around Mitchell. What did they think it was -- a time out?

Yes, they clapped half-heartedly when he was taken off, but they cheered 90% of the time he was down, stopping only about a minute before he was taken away.

I have to say that either our fans are either classless or extremely ignorant. I was at the (opposite) 40-yard line in the student section, and even though I could not actually see Xavier Mitchell, it was utterly obvious that he had suffered a serious injury. Anybody with half a brain should have been able to determine that, but a large majority of the student section kept chanting PAC-10 football. What is worse is that Rally Comm did not make any attempt to shut the student section up. To be honest, I am not exactly pleased with how Cal fans have been. The stadium was not nearly as loud as the Oregon game, and then they go ahead and pull this stupid stuff. It was definitely shameful...as our team gets better, the majority of the fan base becomes more like USCs.

As for all this talk about whose offense is better and what not, I think it is WAY too early for this kind of trash talking. Folks, it has been ONE WEEK and already we are trying to match up teams. I know that this is part of the fun, but let's give it a few more games shall we? Making arguments on one week of action is like suggesting Michigan gets 2 or 3 wins this season after getting owned in its own house. We all know Carr is a complete mess, but let's be realistic...we all know that it was a fluke and a result of overlooking the opponent and crappy preparation (at least I hope so). I sure want to be its next opponent (gl Oregon), because they will be *pissed.*

Something’s not quite right with you. First, you sign up this August yet profess to be one of the biggest Tennessee fans ever. Second, you say you went or are going to Cal, thus propping yourself up with so-called credibility, yet almost everything you say about Cal is a lie. Third, almost all of your posts have been disparaging towards Cal and even worse most of your comments are fabrications about Cal and the fans. So, you’re either a poor loser or something much more sinister is going on here.

Congratulations, Teddy.

Yeah, just starting the tally for this season.Just to make you feel better the SEC won 3 games last year and the PAC 10 won 1. The SEC and PAC 10 are completley different conferences, your typically based on size, defense, and running the ball (although that stereotype has been changing in recent years, with Russell and, Ainges' success. PAC 10 is all bout speed and high scoring through the (west coast offense), with small emphasis on defense. I am tired of you south easterns being so ignorant, If we had a SEC PAC10 tourney, sort of like Big East and Big 10 in basketball I think you would be surpirsed how even are conferences are (Although a tourney in college football would never happen). And the most exciting game would be Stanford and Mississippi State, lol. Just curious does the SEC think as little of the BIG 10 as the PAC 10?

Calls us when someone other than SC actually does something of note nationally.

1. Do you have specific examples or are you just flaming?

2. I do not go to Cal, but I just graduated from Berkeley's law school. I say what I experienced there. You're free to disagree with my opinions and observations.

3. What does signing up for this forum in August have to do with me being a huge Tennessee fan?

Not trying to pick a fight here, it just seems like you’re going out of your way to make all Cal fans out to be completely classless jerks. If you graduated from Boalt you know that isn’t true. Congratulations by the way, that is a very fine law school and I think you made a good choice.

USC is the only PAC 10 team with SEC quality speed on defense.

This is a classic statment.
Your team was just out run last Saturday.
One of our linebackers outran your running back on a fumble returned for a touchdown.
Coach Fulmer said in a post game interview "They definitely have a lot of speed, and in our league we play a lot of teams with speed, but they definitely made us look not very good."

And now you say that only SC has enough speed on D to come near your mighty SEC. Wow, you have enough faith in your belifes to ignore all evidence, or just when it comes to football?

Though hast eyes and seeth not.

If I had to guess out of context, I'd say Fulmer's comment was about the offense.

Your defense was nearly as bad as ours. You're in more trouble than you think, even with those playmakers on offense.

Yes our pass defense was sketchy, but traditionaly that will take a game or two to get going, but our Run defense was amazing. Your team was almost completly one dimensional. And why should we need defense if you keep claiming that no team except SC could challenge the mighty sec. If we can stop any sec teams offense we should be all right. Isn't that what you've been saying.

Full quote from Sporting News was
"There were a number of occasions when we just looked bad trying to tackle those guys," said Fulmer, who lost the Vols' opener for just the second time since 1993. "Their front did a good job moving us more than we would have liked. They definitely have a lot of speed, and in our league we play a lot of teams with speed, but they definitely made us look not very good."
He may have been talking strictly about the offense, but the linebacking corps and the backfied are pretty fast this year.just against the clock, not in any subjective method of analysis.

BTW you say you went to law school at UC, can you tell me what intersection the windows of the law library look out on?

i wouldn't let your D take too much credit for stopping the run. our RB's are pretty unspectacular.

i didn't say that only SC could challenge the SEC. i just said that SC is the only team that would consistently win in the SEC. neither the result of this game nor your allegedly amazing defense against the run proves otherwise.

OH WOW. Do you REALLY think I'd get on a message board, post a picture of myself, use my real first name and claim to have graduated from a law school I didn't actually attend?

Get over yourself.
