My take on the Cal game

Then here's what I want to know. How does Cal do in the Pac-10?

I've been a cal fan for 13 years now. . . we will lose to someone lousy. Mark my word. We will play SC close though. Gregory (our DC) has always held SC offense down. Bush never had a 100 yard game or TD against cal. As hat has said ASU and Oregon could both be tough on the road. Tedford's never won at oregon or at ucla (he's never lost to ASU). Though both UCLA losses we completely choked away. I have a feeling we destroy ucla. I'm praying for a bcs game. I don't think that is unrealistic.

You guys have a good shot with the win. However, given what happened in '04, I'd say losing to more than one Pac-10 team besides USC will ruin that shot.

If you think its Florida, the Vols beat the Gators soundly in a couple of weeks. Cal had experience all over the field. Florida is rebuilding a defense and has a qb that can only run. The Vols will shred the Gators D. And no team the Vols play this year has as good an offense as Cal.

Strong statements, allvol!

TN will SHRED the Gators? I'll believe that when I see it.

My hope is that CAL is good and we played poorly on defense. However, I also fear our dink and dump horizontal passing game will get eaten up against SEC defenses that will more or less shut our run down.

if we go 10-2 and SC is in the NC game we will go to the rose bowl (knock on wood). Cal in the rose bowl would be the hardest ticket in 20 years. We have hundreds of thousands of alumni in southern california. They also like to maintain the pac-10/big-10 match up and I think we can safely assume no Big-10 team is going ot the nc game.

Cal vs. Wisconsin? Possibly.

Nothing against you, but I can't really see your team getting past UofO, OSU, UCLA, USC, ASU and possibly even UDub without more than two losses. I mean, we're still dealing with Jeff Tedford teams here. Saturday's win was huge, but one thing at a time here.

Cal would have beat most any team last Saturday night. Tennessee did not play poorly overall...just missed tackles..Offense looked great!

Neither Alabama or Florida will give up 31 points if we don't do something other than throw 5 yard passes... I do expect some change there though.

Regarding ksushalovesthevols comments, The student section was chanting PAC 10 football directly after the play that Xavier Mitchell was hurt. But as people realized the seriousness of the injury they stopped and applauded for him as he was carted off the field. Regarding the Sec and Pac 10, the top Pac 10 teams CAL, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Arizona State, and (some years Oregon State), can compete with the top SEC teams. However The SEC's lower ranked teams are far better than the PAC 10's lower teams. But I think your way off saying that SC is the only quality team, If Cal played you guys again in Knoxville this year, I guarantee it would have been different than last year. Last year the Tennessee game was the first game for a majority of our secondary, and you should know that you can't put a group of young kids on Meachem and expect sucess. And all of you keep saying Cal played above themselves. Are Defense looked terrible, and our offense was on par, Forsett had an average game (160 yards) and Longshore had a few bad series, along with a fewgreatones

In the Jeff Tedford era our running backs have averaged about 150 yards a game. with Ademchenobi Echemondu, J.J Aarington, Marshawn Lynch, and Justin Forsett. Everyone thinks of Tedford as the quarterback coach but I have been most impressed with the runningbacks that have came through the program

I have lurked here a while but will post now. I've watched UT football since I attended Bill Battles football camp in 1975. My son attends UT.UT is now in exactly the same perdicament the UK basketball program was in last year. Nice guy, good citizen, doesn't break the rules, won a National title nearly a decade ago, and RUNNING a proud program straight into the ground. Fulmer is past it and just like Tubby Smith, seems unwilling or incapable of making the changes necessary to turn things around. I hope you guys can muster the cutzpah to do whats necessary, the SEC needs a strong UT, I'm sick of watching those lizards dominate the league. My heart goes out to you, I KNOW what it's like watching a great program slide into mediocrity.

Cal will be the best team the Vols face this season.

Wow, AV, it's you! I sure hope you're right, because that's about the only thing that will help me to stomach our performance this weekend.

Cal definitely has the playmakers and speed on offense, but their defense would compare only with the bottom half of the SEC. On an "overall" basis, it's hard to judge at this point in the season.

Having lived in Lex for the last 17 years I can tell you that the paralells are just spooky. UK really got off of the hook with Tubster resigning.

Tubby won SEC championships after his national title.

Cal got a fluke fumble.......and a punt return....otherwise this was a slugfest between 2 of the Nations top programs.....Yes, our run def has to improve, it will....has every year from the 1st to the 2nd game......Our offense was explosive, I didnt say a deep threat, I said explosive.......I question our heart and play calling in the 4th quarter and all of those things can be worked on!! You guys talk about a coaching change.....blah blah blah....but there is not a better living room coach then CFP........and on a note noone has said anything about........if Ainge's fumble was called back from an illegal spear.......the game would have went totally in a different direction.......when the score was 38 - 31 there was 2 pass interference calls that should have been called........all of those things didn't happen and we lost...we didnt get run out of the building, we didn't get embarrassed......we got beat by a team that wanted it more.........Ala, Florida or Ga........watched all of those, never once saw the athleticism on those 3 then I did Cal........Best and Forsett better then any on those teams......We will be fine, WE will overcome and WE will run the table.....how many losses did our national champ have last year?? What would all of you negative people say then?? :mf_surrender:

I think we have talked about this extensivly in other threads. I have no idea why you created a new one.
