Getting a little off the topic of Tennessee's current football situation, I wanted to talk about an issue I've had since I began watching sports as a kid.

Born in Tennessee, I was raised by my mom's family to be a Tennessee fan. However, Tennessee Athletics wasn't pushed on me as much as it was simply Tennessee Football that was pushed on me. As a kid, basketball quickly became my favorite sport. Although he was finishing up his career with the Wizards when I became interested in basketball, Michael Jordan became my favorite basketball player. My interest in Jordan became an obsession. Due to my obsession with Jordan, I developed an interest in the Chicago Bulls and the North Carolina Men's Basketball Team. This was around the age of 7-8. As I grew up, I found myself following Tennessee Football and North Carolina Basketball. I didn't realize the situation I had put myself in until I was too attatched to both teams. To this day, I still avidly follow the same teams in their respective sports.

I wanted to get people's opinion on how they feel about the fact that I root for different schools in football and basketball. It will obviously not change the way I feel about it, but I am just curious.

You are who you are. It's certainly not admirable, but to force yourself to change now would be worse.

when I was a little kid my brother took me to a vandy Game, back when Phil Cox was the star. so I've always liked Vandy basketball, and started following the Vols football in 85 when everyone at work was talking about them. Been a fan ever since, still like vandy in round ball, but have NO black & Gold at my house. I'm all orange for the Vols (football).

When Vanderbilt and Tennessee play in basketball, who do you root for?

I would just stick with one, but whatever makes you happy. I do know that sometimes it would be nice to eat McDonald's fries with a Jr. Bacon from Wendy's.

Whatever makes you happy. Me, my brother, cousins, friends are mostly all TN alums so I can't imagine rooting for another school. I've liked Oregon since I was 13yrs old and consider them my no.2 school but find hard to really get into their sports still (outside of their track program cause it kicks azz).

So you root for UNC over UT when they play in bball?

I am pro-Tennessee every sport,

but don't hate on people. However, my wife's roomate in college was a Tennessee basketball fan and an Alabama football fan. Made me want to vomit.

I have never personally watched them play in basketball, but if they did - yes, I would root for UNC. I actually follow Tennessee's basketball team a lot closer than I follow North Carolina's football team because I don't care about North Carolina Football, and Tennessee is family to me. But I am so passionate about UNC basketball, I would have to root for them.

How would you decide which one to pick?

Sorry. I didn't mean to "like" your comment. I know it's not so simple. I used to watch GA FB before I followed the Vols, and the reason I did was because my dad is a fan. I know it shouldn't always be emotional, but I just had a better experience as a Vol fan and enjoy it more. There are also things that I like about the school and Knoxville that never hit me the same in Athens. But I don't follow BB so I can't really say what that would be like. All I know is that I never had a real reason to like GA except my dad liked them. I chose to become a Vol. Not sure if that helps.

This is where we're different. At my house, you will find that I evenly sport Tennessee and UNC.
