You made some decent points.

However, giving any sort of excuse for Tennessee students acting the way they did is just as inexcusable. I understand that we all love football, I go to UT, it's a damn good time. It's not so much about that very small minority of students who participated in the mob (mostly Freshmen ), but about a larger collective mentality of football vs. education. I'm proud to go to The University of Tennessee Knoxville and I will be very proud to say I graduated from the university. My point, which has been made many times over by far more articulate people than myself is this: we focus so much energy, money and resources into UT football, and its built a hell of a program. I just wish that type of dedication could be more focused on creating a better academic population on the campus.

Just my two cents, not trying to start a war, I understand the points that counter my position, so no need to "school me"
