My outlook, warning it's positive.........

I truly believe this could be the most talented group of QB's Heupel has had to work with. Hooker was a good starter at Tech, Salter-mobile QB with a rocket, HB-5 star on Rivals, and the wildcard who has shown glimpses- Maurer. He's got talent on the roster, Pruitt had to be the worst coach at managing the QB position I have seen in my life. Played JG pick after pick then pulled Bailey after his best half of football for no apparent reason. Just cause he felt like it. It was maddening. The cupboard is not bare at the QB position.

I was watching some talk show....it escapes me.....predicting that White will pursue an offensively minded coach for the very reason that CFB is being driven by QB play and offense. He also said that the HC hire will need to be able to develop QBs. Heupel has a pretty good track record on both counts to date. But he also said that UT will need to overachieve to sustain any gains/momentum. I think he was pretty spot on.

I think Heupel could use some help in establishing an equally strong defense. I would also throw in recruiting. If I'm White, I'm definitely sticking my nose into recruiting - its something I look to change considerably. And I think they'll get 2 years to see how things are shaping up - then the questions are going to start in earnest.

I see 6-6 next year and I'm being optimistic.
Alot really depends on who all we get back from the portal. Pieces are there on Offense, just didn't execute....so if JH can fix the O, and keep the D steady (and coach how to guard slants), we could do a little better. I do think we're at a higher threshold now from a talent perspective than we've been for any of the previous recent coaching changes.

I have no doubt the qb play will improve greatly, recruiting and defense is where the problem will be. Even with a good dc I think they will be worn down because if too much time on the field. Recruiting, I just say good luck and hope for the best.

This may not end well for you but good positive post.
Honestly, how does it get any worse than JP's last season. Heupel is stepping into a good position because there is more upswing and any positive result on the field at the QB position and offense as a whole bodes well for him.

I guess fans can piss and moan about the hire if it makes them feel better, but it's not productive and I don't see any value in it.

Time to put our head down, pay our debt to the NCAA and keep grinding.
I'm rooting for the guys wearing the orange.

This is the SEC, not the conference american. This guy has to beat Dan Mullen, Kirby Smart, and Nick Saban. Not Temple and some other directional school and their coach
So you are saying we could go 9&3 next year? I think we will be much better but will struggle to win 9 this Fall.

IMO, the most important position on the football team is the QB. We have not had great, not good, hell not even decent QB play since Dobbs graduated. Gitmo's mistakes were catastrophic, fumbles returned for TD's, pick sixes, etc. "Decent" QB play this past season and we win 6-7 games. Our new coach has a history and reputation of developing quarterbacks. With Maurer and Baily returning, and the Salter kid coming, I'm encouraged that we might turn the corner. Whether you could stomach Pruitt or not, he's not leaving the cupboard empty. Now, I don't know who all is in the transfer portal, but we have some talent, and improved QB play may speed our rebuild up.

And don’t overlook the VaTech QB Hooker.

Amen! Very well said. Heupel was an All American QB on a national championship team at Oklahoma under Coach Bob Stoops and was an assistant coach there for several years too...Heupel is a winner and we will see better QB play at UT next year and the coming years. There is potential in our returning QBs with good coaching.
Our success is dependent on the QB being able to read the defense and the RPO. Seems made for Salter but hope Bailey can rise to the level needed as well.!

Maybe he got caught abd there was no way out of it, but a large part of me thinks Pruitt would still be our coach had he not stuck with JG for so long. This team spiraled out of control after getting boat raced by Kentucky..

We will have to out score the other team which is something last year we was not able to even try!
