I am god. I don't appreciate my creations using my word to support their football teams or justify why they may win a ballgame, and for that matter "giving me shout outs" when they score touchdowns -- especially the ones that do not walk daily with me.

BTW, GO VOLS! I secretly have something planned for you all this weekend, but you'll have to wait and see what it is...

P.S. I'll be watching from above.

I'm sorry if my post offended you. That's what I tried to say in the beginning paragraph. I just thought it was a neat comparison. If you don't want a religious post, think of this as a history lesson.

The intention of this thread was to get people fired up for the game because alot of fans have been down on the Vols this week. I just wanted to pump you guys up. I like this forum and felt comfortable enough to post this type of message to our Volunteer Nation but I regret it now. Once again, I'm sorry to those I offended with my post and I now know not to put anything religious on here.

Cheers...and of course, Go Vols!

Where it came from is a guy very modestly and even apologetically made it very clear he was only stating his particular belief, and that furthermore he wasn't trying to preach to anyone...And then a bunch of people act like this is a federal court rather than an internet message board and, further, one for Vol fans, which include several people who happen to be Christians. All he was trying to say is that giants sometimes lose, and that he personally feels that in this particular battle - not every battle, just this one game - God may be on our side, not because we deserve it more than the other team, but just because he has decided to be (if that's the case, which I also happen to believe is very possible, seeing how prideful and arrogant the other team is going into this game, from their coach down to even their star who normally is more reserved but has already talked about how he doesn't like other teams insulting his coach, etc.)

No one is trying to proselytize you. Relax. Enjoy the victory if God grants it tomorrow (or it comes floating through the ether by chance, depending on what your belief system tells you).

there is no need to apologize to those that live to be offended or better yet those that live to be offended for other people. if they didnt like it they should have stopped reading after the first paragraph! i am not a church goer by any means and found absolutely nothing offensive about this post. stopped being offended just to be offended people. ridiculous

“No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS! Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

I read that and can’t help but apply it to Saturday/the current state of Tennessee football. Joshua went on to lead the Israelites into Canaan and took back what was theirs. Along the way, his troops were outnumbered and outsized; he took on giants and tore down walls (Jericho). We’re under new leadership and we’re outsized/the underdogs this Saturday; no body believes in us and that includes about 60% of our fans! I’m not saying now that I read this that we are guaranteed a victory, not at all but I believe that anything can happen when you step out onto that field. Our players need to BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS and “Give their all for Tennessee!” Tennessee is God’s country and our promise land is the National Championship. We gotta believe and fight our battles strategically and we will get there! I’m freaking fired up about the Vols this weekend! Win or lose, this is the team I love more than anything. Sorry this was a novel of a message but I felt lead to say it. Didn't mean to preach at ya but I can't help it :)

The Vols face a huge challenge later today and there has been persistent doom and gloom and dread and depression in the Vol Nation.

This fellow came across some text that he found inspirational and comforting and decided to share it. I kind of enjoyed reading it. The fact that it come from a religious text is irrelevant in my opinion.

I don't like to see people evangelizing on here, but that's not what the OP was doing.

we might just find out if God is a VOLS fan today but my guess is the only JC he cares about is the one who was nailed to the cross and not our JC and for lack of a better word, our QB.

That's a rather parochial God you have there. I thought Christian tradition held that he loves everyone. If so, this would imply he cares about John Crompton too.

The key to that story that you fail to mention is that said residents didn't care about him. That was the crux of the matter.

I think BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS is particularly fitting for the players, coaches, and fans not only in this game, but in every game-regardless of what sport it may be. Excellent post...
