Well. After my 2.5 hour drive back to Nashville I can say this really hurt. But here are my observations from today's game.
1. We played a very good 1st half. Of and CBJ called a very good game. I had only one issue and that was the coward 4th and inches fg. You coach as a coward you lose as a coward.
2. Adjustments after half time we're atrocious. We got to relaxed with a 14 pt lead and the rest is history.
3. The 2nd half play calling was as green and vanilla as it gets. We have the worst lack of combo/rub routes in America. We ran too many qb dive plays attempting to milk the clock it was amazing. Every screen play we ran was blown up and they continued to run the same crap over and over. We did very little to help Dobbs who was very pedestrian in his own right tonight. We were winning throwing underneath and slants. I guess we forgot that was working 1st half. How many attempts did 81, 25, 2, 3, 9, or 8 get on a dig, shallow crossing route, curls, outs, etc.
4. On defense our DEs played with poor technique and zero containment. Nor did we ever use a spy on the qb who clearly was only effective when he scrambled outside the pocket.
5. The last drive in regulation per JRMaybin they we're drained and the awful PI penalty took all they had left out of the defense.
6. We can no longer let CBJ avoid scrutiny and there we're a lot of rumblings in the recruiting dining room and family dining room likewise. That 2nd half looked as if we had the same OC from last yr. Common denominator is CBJ.
In order for UT to return to UT it starts with CBJ. That 2nd half of football was Dooleyesq coaching. Everybody celebrates the WR core well they need more effort plays. The OL while very much improved whew those OTs we're beaten on a regular. DL I hate to say it but Barnett needs to play inside on passing downs and probably on a regular. My logic is he won't play DE in a 4-3 in the NFL but is more of a 3-4 5 technique guy. LBs well well well Everybody's favorite walk on is damn outright awful. I don't even think Jumper is fast enough to play for UTC we're the words coming out of Al Wilson and Buck Fitzgerald's mouth. Every play he made tonight and last week was after the Line of scrimmage. He can't cover a soul, and is just not good. JRM is a football playing defensive play making machine. Maggitt the greatest effort guy I've ever seen and a true VFL but honestly guys we have 1 true LB and a lot of talented young guys who deserve more opportunity especially DKJ. Now the secondary. 12 and 13 are simple not going to cut it. Martinez has to get a very green Justin Martin up to par and quick. Safety was amazing thanks to TKJ.
Last I'll say this CBJ wants Striker to have some class, the best way to teach him is to beat his @## and shut him up in game and you never see that after the game. I'm sorry while it was awful he deserved to celebrate how he wanted because hisbteam fought back and won the game.

That is a load of horse sh*t. Winning does not somehow excuse trash behavior. That doesn't even make sense.

Well my friend I can recall that behavior from UT players in the 90s because we were the big dog. Alabama did it then and now. The way you stop it is win the damn game. Football is not an alter boy sport. You will always see some ignorance. So get over it stop being soft and hurt. It happens.

Doesn't matter. Classlessness is classlessness and is completely inexcusable. Enabling attitudes like yours are a cancer to society.

1) I learned the Oline and Dline aren't as good as we hoped.
2) DeBord may not be as good as we hoped..
3) Butch, probably isn't as good as we all hoped he would be.
4) We have no kicker

That was a total choke job and the blame can be spread around a little. Although i'd put pretty much all of it on Butch. You can't just shut it down against a team like that. Herm said it best " You play to win the game". We were just trying to hang on and that gets you beat against better teams.

The point still remains that the best way to shut him up is to actually win instead of saying something to him after the loss. CBJ choked on this one and he knows it....and it looks likes sour grapes and sore losing on his part, whether it was or not.

UT found ways to lose. Two missed FGs. Ellis' drop.

My dear ole mom called at half time excited with the lead. After watching the offense already go into stall mode in the 2nd quarter, I told her, I predict they lose if they play like that I'm 2nd half. They did.

I saw major issues last week but was blasted for being a negavol. To me the deficiencies in the passing game were obvious. Too slow to develop and too much holding the ball waiting for something. Dobbs looked clueless at times. Kirkland sat while a walk-on killed your defensive effort.

At least a dozen times that even mediocre quarterback play gets us a win, and that's the position you don't call out.
I don't get it. I want Josh to be successful but he was really terrible this game.
And when he was on target, Ellis couldn't hold himself, much less a football.

The one thing I am happy about?

We have a frickin punter. Trevor Daniel is MVP in my book tonight. Without his field position, we don't have the lead for as long as we did.

agree with everything except barnette. he is a beast at end very quick for a guy his size, and the younger ends aren't ready. if they were I would say yes try Derek inside.

Here is what I learned:

1. We have not arrived yet- we a better but not there yet
2. We have lots of weakness.
Middle LB
Nickle Back
Offensive Line
Field Goal Kicker
Tight End Depth
QB as a passer
3. A few plays cost us the game.
The missed Field Goal
MLB-called for holding of pass play 3rd & Long
TE-dropped pass at 10 yard line
Pass Interference by Nickle in End Zone
4. We have a great loyal fan base!!!

Not sure we have anything more than a runningback playing QB. Yeah i left him out. Should have added him, at least for the bonehead pick at the end anyway.

after actually attending the game...

it is SO heartbreaking watching this "loser mentality" that this Team possesses into the 4th Quarter, even AFTER TKjr's 2nd interception and momentum swing. Maybe Butch and the Coaching Staff needs to spend more time actually UNDERSTANDING Maxim #2- Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE

Instead of Butch's - "When you have the game in-hand...try to PROTECT your lead by Coaching with Cowardice"

cowardice

: fear that makes you unable to do what is right or expected : lack of courage

I was having Johnny Majors coached teams flashbacks. Or some of Fulmer's late career brilliance. Looked all too familiar..

We never tried to score. So we never scored. 17 points is not NEARLY enough to win a game like this. Embarrassing and deflating game by Butch Jones. He is the leader, and the buck stops with him.

Hot seat officially activated. I need to see a winning record this year against our rivals. That's Florida, Georgia & Alabama for the youngsters here. If not, I'm fine with firing his arse and starting over. Three years is enough to prove you can sink or swim. And we're drowning @ the moment.

Sorry but we could finish the year 1-11 and Butch isn't going anywhere.

If Butch goes Hart might not be far behind. Since the honeymoon is now over with Butch and after the Donnie T fiasco. I'm not sure Hart can keep working here with another mistake. Maybe Rick Barnes can bring him some good Karma.

Offensive play calling in the 2nd half was atrocious. I not sure what DeBord was doing when our defense was on the field. He must have been napping because he sure wasn't studying what OK was doing on defense. They were sending 5 to 6 guys every play to stop the run. Simple crossing routes by the slot receiver just behind the linebackers would have put a stop to that. Also, you can't tell me there wasn't simple one-on-one coverage somewhere on the outside.

Right after the opening drive of the second half when we moved down the field, stalled at the 30 and missed that fg badly I looked at my wife and said it's over, we are going to lose.
