My opinion of UT 2009 Season

..... Guess you didn't hear how Kiffin got the cold shoulder in Destin. After Slive chewed his ass, he & Layla ended up eating alone while all the other coaches and their wives ate together. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.......not really the behaivor of a professional.

Source?

Yeah, those other coaches are acting quite unprofessional.

Of course this flies in the face of his supposed personal friendships with Houston Nutt, Rich Brooks, and Bobby Johnson.

Are you really a Tennessee fan or are you still stuck up Phil Fulmers rear end that you can’t see all the great things that have happened since he’s been here. A top ten recruiting class and also on top of that he did all that within 5 months. He took us from a horrible excuse of a recruiting season to a top tier recruiting program in less than 5 months, that saying something... They had the talent last year Fulmer just didn’t know how to use them...He got too complacent. UT is not about complacency. They are about winning games, and getting the job done. So unless you have something positive to say either 1 don’t say anything at all or 2 jump ship and be a fan of another team because UT doesn’t need people like you dogging them and placing Debbie downer ideas in their heads. Oh and about the grammar yeah its loss not lost...and you must be a bammer. A UT fan wouldn’t talk like that. To be honest I hope if you read this it pisses you off too because what you wrote on here while CLAIMING to be as fan was ridiculous!

How could that be? It isn't like all the coaches were there together. Are you talking about the great Q & A Kiffin held? Give me a break! As usual, Kiffin sounds like a college freshman who's giving his first oral presentation in Speech 101.

NVM.... Your posts are too stupid to warrant the effort.

That is the way it happened. No BS. If you know of anyone that was at the hotel/ resturant, they will tell you the exact same thing. My "source" will mean nothing to you, and naming him is pointless...you will just ridicule and say it is not valid, as you most often do to others. You don't have to believe it, in the end it doesn't matter, but that is the way it went down.

Voldad said (before he edited it) that LK and Mullen socialized "for about 20 minutes".

Doesn't that confirm it? He had a friend for 20 minutes while the others ate together?

Anyway. It doesn't matter. You think coaches fear LK, I think that is laughable. We shall see how afraid they are starting in about 20 days.

Ease up on 5150. He has a right to post his opinion. While I don't agree with him, we very could have a losing season this year. Think about it, what if Berry gets hurt or we lose a D or O lineman or if no QB steps up?

All I know about Kiffin is that he will fill the stands and work hard to recruit. Give him 3-4 years before deciding if he is the right man for UT. I'm just happy that Phil is gone.

There is data (like, um, his record), yet if I repeat it I get accused of "saying the same thing over and over". BTW Verc, you and I both know the only reason Kiffin is here is because of his last name. With the same background, anyone with a different last name might have been looked at for a coordinators position.......but head coach?? Never. Ever ask yourself why noone else tried to hire Kiffin? Maybe you can't classify that as "data", but it is certainly relevant to the discussion. The only folks in the entire country that think this was a good hire are certain Vol fans. And that will (unfortuately) take care of itself in a matter of months.

As for calling people names, I'm just repeating what is said to me through the endless attack post. Sorry you missed that. I should have used quotes.

By "his record," I assume you mean his record in Oakland. Have a look at the pro careers of Steve Spurrier and Pete Carroll to see how directly comparable NFL and college success are.

He didn't get the job "because of his last name"; he got the job because he sold Mike Hamilton a specific plan that revolved around hiring an all-star coaching staff (including, of course, his dad), energetic and relentless recruiting, and national publicity. Of course his family and other connections helped in making that plan credible, but Hamilton didn't just hire him because of his name. Hamilton had already said that he wanted to hire a high-energy guy; that's what he found immediately appealing about Kiffin. The name and connections just made his overall plan -- especially regarding his coaching staff -- sound feasible.

There really is no point in having this conversation with you, however, because you've turned yourself into a fanatic about this. Either someone agrees with you that Kiffin is a bozo, or he's a complete moron and a total homer. To you, even someone who wants to wait and see how things go is being willingly blind. Why even come on a message board for discussion when you've already drawn a little box of absolute certainty around yourself? When you can already see into the future and you know how everything's going to play out?

Of course we could have a losing season. There are some giant, glaring issues, and if the breaks go against us, we could end up out of the bowls again. But that's not the discussion 5150 wants to have -- the only thing he wants to talk about is how much he hates Kiffin, how stupid Hamilton was for hiring him, and how blind the rest of us are for not immediately agreeing that Kiffin is awful. 5150's not interested in talking about football; the only thing he's interested in is how much he hates Lane Kiffin.

You need to get out more and listen to some radio, everyone talked about how much respect he earned from being down there and handling himself with class

You need to get off Kiffin's jock because if people like you will shut up and leave him alone and let him coach some games and win us a few big ones, he will be here for a long time and get us to where we need to be

You come on here and say how much we're going to suck this year and pretty much say in a nut shell that our coach is a dumbass....And you don't expect to get flamed for that? Don't get me wrong I totally understand that we could have 6-6 or 7-5 season, but it would take a complete meltdown for 7 teams to beat us

So in other words you have no source? Only hear say

True. He is living in Alabama, so who do you think he is getting his hear say from.
I heard exactly the opposite of what he is claiming...Just because he wasn't over there rubbing elbows with people at dinner doesn't mean a thing, maybe he didn't want to go over there and chit chat with them...Who cares who he ate dinner with ya know?

To answer your question....Finebaum

He's only parrotting what he hears and reads in the Bama biased media here in this state. Reminds me of when the liberal media went on the Sarah Palin attack when it appeared that she was going to revive the pathetic McCain campaign. 5150 is likely a good Vol fan but not mature enough to live outside of East Tennessee.

A good Vol fan does not write a bunch of posts about how much he'll be laughing at the rest of us when the team has another losing season and he's proven right. 5150 never even qualifies it with a token "I hope I'm wrong about Kiffin, but...." The reason he had to put I HOPE WE WIN EVERY GAME in all caps in his first post in this thread is because he's made it so glaringly obvious in the past that his main hope for this upcoming season is to see Kiffin fall on his face.

No true Vol fan would ever want the coach, or team for that matter to fall on their face

I can see your point.......But let's look at the flipside; It is very disturbing to me that the VAST majority of folks have convinced themselves that Kiffin was "a good hire", when anyone with any objectivity or brains knows good and dam# well this was a horrible, horrible selection. I'm all for optimism when it is warranted....but this is nothing short of insanity. I know a "homer" is a "homer", but good God folks........this hire was probably the worst in the country (MAYBE 2nd worst, behind AU).

I just never thought I'd see the day when Volunteer fans would actually applaud the hiring of someone who couldn't even get an interview at San Jose State.

Anyone that uses the word folks is non-respectable.

If UT had made a hire that I absolutely hated and was convinced would fail -- Mike Leach, for example -- then I would no doubt be bitching up a blue streak about him. But my posts would be full of qualifications, all to the effect that I hoped to be completely wrong about the guy, and that nothing would make me happier than to eat a giant dish of crow about it. You won't find any of that in 5150's posts.

I could be in the minority here, but I'd rather have dinner alone with Layla than Spurrier, Saban, et al.

5150 just curious who do you wanted as a coach?. Nobody wanted mike leach who got whipped against ole miss and who thinks he is a pirate.the cincinati coach would have sucked. I think you should be working for espn the way you talk bout kiffin. Look what USC offense did under kiffin. Who cares about oakland. Let's talk about sabans record at miami. He sucked it up at miami
