My opinion of UT 2009 Season

Either way, no need for someone to jump on for saying me may very well lose to three of the top SEC teams on our schedule. It's not like I'm hoping we do. I'd prefer we crush everyone, but I don't want to be ridiculous in my expectations.

The only way tennessee goes 5-7 again is if the team is beset by numerous injuries and the coaching staff totally chokes in close games. It would be an unmitigated disaster. The schedule really isn't that bad as long as ut can just defend home field. This is a good year to have 8 home games.

i truly belive we will be in every game. WKU is a win. UCLA SHOULD be a win and if not it will be a long year. but at 2-0 heading to gainseville i think our guys will have something to prove. we do not get blown out but lose a close one 24- 14. We beat ohio and auburn. the auburn game is ugly but a win is a win. next comes georgia. we got them at home and i think joe cox is overrated. close game could go either way but i give uga the edge. Alabama beats us by 10 but we beat spurrier by 17. memphis is a cake walk and our guys are gaining confidence. i think we pull the upset of the year on ole miss with great defense and EB returning a pick for six. Vandy and UK are easy wins and we head to the outback bowl to play Iowa, and we win that one to close out the year 10-3. We sign a top 5 recruiting class and next year we beat florida, win the east and go to the sugar bowl. by 2011 we are national title contenders. and all you Lane Kiffin haters will be praising him as the greatest coach of all time... book it

The bad news….the offense. The worst news…..the offensive line. With a stable of RBs but no one to run block, watching our backfield carry for 2-3 yds/ play will become frustrating rather quickly.

If we avg. 3.3 ypc as a team we win no less than 7 games IMHO.

There is data (like, um, his record), yet if I repeat it I get accused of "saying the same thing over and over". BTW Verc, you and I both know the only reason Kiffin is here is because of his last name. With the same background, anyone with a different last name might have been looked at for a coordinators position.......but head coach?? Never. Ever ask yourself why noone else tried to hire Kiffin? Maybe you can't classify that as "data", but it is certainly relevant to the discussion. The only folks in the entire country that think this was a good hire are certain Vol fans. And that will (unfortuately) take care of itself in a matter of months.

I'll pile on too. We're going from an OL who couldn't figure out where to go much less who to block, to look up and clock whoever is in front of you. Missed blocks are what kill a run game. Zone blocking is way harder to screw up than telling your Otackle to do a figure eight with jazz hands then block the third guy to the left. Run game and D wins games. Always has, always will. We will win games. 8 at least this year. Despite our QB play. JC, NS, or whoever are capable of dinking and dunking; that's all we'll need to notch 8. If the QB has better than average results, we'll get 9, maybe 10.

Concerns for this year are that Crompton and Stephens both look pedestrian at best so far, our middle linebacker which is an incredibly important position in the Tampa 2 defense will either be a walk on who is smaller than me or a guy who was a 3 star and whose claim to fame is a practice hit he made this week.

Yawn. You really do need to stop drinking the kool-aid. Your boy MH will be fired in 2-3 yrs (I wish it were 2 to 3 months).....he'll be out when Kiffin gets the boot. You think you can watch practice video and be an expert? The only real experts are the coaches, and there is a reason why none respect Kiffin. And trust me....it is not because they are afraid of him, regardless of what you want to believe.

You can argue that our O-line is greatly improved.......I disagree. Unfortunately for the both of us you'll agree with me by the end of sept. It is a fact that Kiffin does not possess the leadership skills to run this program......hell, he doesn't even possess the speaking skills.

What is bad about your post is that you mention poor offensive line play and only being able to run the ball for 2/3 yards as our weakness. Every real vol fan knows right now that our QB play is the weakness of our team and that would make us have a bad season. Thinking that we are going to lose to Auburn, SC, and Kentucky is just ludicrous.

Please why don't you tell me why UT losing to Auburn/and or/ South Carolina would be ludicrous. I can see why you think UK is a gimee (b/c it is, even SC has won 9 in a row against them), but it is certainly not out of the realm of possiblity that Auburn or South Carolina comes out of neyland with a win, any right-minded vol fan has to look at these two games as ones that have the potential to be very close, and very important to having a good season at that. Trying to be level headed about the situation, I will go ahead and say that UT loses one and wins one out of AU and SC. Hopefully the loss will be to the OBC.

vol5150 you are foolish i have a hard time believing we will win 10 games this year but 5-7 is just foolish we will compete with every team we play not just because of our defense i garuntee our offense will be better kiffin and his staff know what they r doing you being around the rival fans has gotten ur head filled with nonsense. the offense skill set isnt where it was 11 years ago but vey talented but the last couple of years there has been a lack of discipline and heart. the reason to believe why we will be good is look at the last two seasons when we played florida and alabama we were in the games in 2007 against florida we were down 20 - 28 with all the momentum in the third qrt we fumble the ball it is returned for a touchdown we r down now 35-20 we never recovered from that because with fulmer we were to soft we lacked discipline and heart i could go into detail but this is sufficient so 5150 you either have basic football knowledge and dont know how to break down situations why things happen

Before I say anything, let me say I HOPE WE WIN EVERY GAME!!! But the truth is, we won't even win half of them. I think Kiffin is a joke, but (believe it or not) I have been put the unfortunate position of TRYING to defend the hire (I moved from Bradley Co to the Huntsville area earlier this year, and it is hell down here). For the first time in my life I find myself actually agreeing with bammers and ga fans......the AD's at both UT & AU need to be drug tested.

Now... the breakdown.....

The good news is (obviously) the Defense. They will keep us in many games, actually putting us in position to pull a few off. The problem is they will be spending too much time on the field due to the totally inept offense. New system, new coaches make this year’s D not quite where we were last year…..but they do their job. Freshman make a significant impact.

The bad news….the offense. The worst news…..the offensive line. With a stable of RBs but no one to run block, watching our backfield carry for 2-3 yds/ play will become frustrating rather quickly. Obviously not being able to effectively run the ball will put even more pressure on JC/NS, which is the last thing we need. We’ve got the wideouts……the problem is getting them the ball (sorry GJ). It won’t happen. Last year was awful….this year not much improvement.

The “Ugly”……….LK running the show. No question the coaching staff is impressive, but Kiffin is in for a rude awakening. I'll leave it at that.....too many negative thoughts on Kiffin gets your post removed.

UT 30 WKU 3 1-0 Nice start to the season.
UT 14 UCLA 13 2-0 As bad as Bruins are, it is close
UT 10 UF 45 2-1 Kiffin swallows his foot.
UT 24 Ohio 10 3-1 Not close, just not impressive.
UT 9 AU 10 3-2 AU QB play is awful…almost as bad as us.
UT 7 UGA 17 3-3 We just can't score.
UT 10 UA 21 3-4 We just can't score part 2.
UT 14 USC 20 3-5 SS wraps up his final year
UT 20 Mem 6 4-5 EB scores 2 TD's.
UT 10 Miss 28 4-6 We just can't score part 3. And they can.
UT 17 Vandy 7 5-6 History is still on our side.
UT 10 UK 14 5-7 Ending a bad year with a painful lost.

Turn off Finebaum and calm down. I too live in Bama, but let's be realistic......there is only one way to go....up. Actually I think our offense will be improved. I am more concerned about our defense, especially LB if McCoy can't play 100%.

Our problem is not our current head coach but we kept Fulmer 3-4 years too long. That is why the SEC media and fans are so upset....they don't have Phil and Chavis around any longer.
