My opinion of UT 2009 Season

Good question.

AU will be bad, but as bad as their QB play is, ours is worse. I think their D will be slightly better. They're a better team, but not by much.

I think USC will be improved. Not great, but again...better than us.

UK...been a long time coming for them. I don't like it anymore than you do.....but for the first time in a long time, they have a better coach.

AU was as pathetic as us last year. They won by 1 point at their place. You have them winning by 1 point at ours this year. Including the 3 points given for home field advantage for both games, you think they have improved over us by almost a TD since last year. You then say, “They’re a better team, but not by much”. I don’t get it.

USC jr. has QB issues (what else is new) and Spurrier is as disengaged as ever. With the home field advantage you have them greater than 1 TD favorite. Again, I don’t see it.

And UK; if your reasoning were correct the streak would have ended a long time ago. The next time Fulmer outcoaches someone will be the first. The streak will end someday and this might be the year; but not for the reason that you gave.

.

Before I say anything, let me say I HOPE WE WIN EVERY GAME!!! But the truth is, we won't even win half of them. I think Kiffin is a joke, but (believe it or not) I have been put the unfortunate position of TRYING to defend the hire (I moved from Bradley Co to the Huntsville area earlier this year, and it is hell down here). For the first time in my life I find myself actually agreeing with bammers and ga fans......the AD's at both UT & AU need to be drug tested.

Now... the breakdown.....

The good news is (obviously) the Defense. They will keep us in many games, actually putting us in position to pull a few off. The problem is they will be spending too much time on the field due to the totally inept offense. New system, new coaches make this year’s D not quite where we were last year…..but they do their job. Freshman make a significant impact.

The bad news….the offense. The worst news…..the offensive line. With a stable of RBs but no one to run block, watching our backfield carry for 2-3 yds/ play will become frustrating rather quickly. Obviously not being able to effectively run the ball will put even more pressure on JC/NS, which is the last thing we need. We’ve got the wideouts……the problem is getting them the ball (sorry GJ). It won’t happen. Last year was awful….this year not much improvement.

The “Ugly”……….LK running the show. No question the coaching staff is impressive, but Kiffin is in for a rude awakening. I'll leave it at that.....too many negative thoughts on Kiffin gets your post removed.

UT 30 WKU 3 1-0 Nice start to the season.
UT 14 UCLA 13 2-0 As bad as Bruins are, it is close
UT 10 UF 45 2-1 Kiffin swallows his foot.
UT 24 Ohio 10 3-1 Not close, just not impressive.
UT 9 AU 10 3-2 AU QB play is awful…almost as bad as us.
UT 7 UGA 17 3-3 We just can't score.
UT 10 UA 21 3-4 We just can't score part 2.
UT 14 USC 20 3-5 SS wraps up his final year
UT 20 Mem 6 4-5 EB scores 2 TD's.
UT 10 Miss 28 4-6 We just can't score part 3. And they can.
UT 17 Vandy 7 5-6 History is still on our side.
UT 10 UK 14 5-7 Ending a bad year with a painful lost.

Wow I didn't know the games had been played yet:ermm::bad:

Fulmer isnt running through the T anymore. Its Kiffins turn. If you were a real Vol fan you would except change and move on. To make the statement that they Ugliest part of the hole show is that LK is running it is a joke in itself seeing as how ive never seen the man run the show at UT or any other CF program in the states and dont say o look what he did in the league.. The game has passed Al by he needs to hang it up and move on like Warren Sapp said "you cant win the in the present when you play in the past". Or D will be or strong point yes, but theres no way or O will be worse than last year new system and a better fit so I dont get your logic. Special Teams will be far better and probably win a game for us sooner rather than later.

Just another Fulmer lover that cannot let go of the past. If Fulmer was still coaching then yes this could be our season ahead. Now CLK as brought some fire and enthuisiasim to UT that we have not had since AL Wilson left for the NFL. Just wait until CLK starts winning and the Fulmerites will convert. Just be happy we do not have to watch Fulmer clap his hands anymore!!!

i agree ,but not only fire and enthusiasm, but talent, plus a much better staff surrounding him.:)

I'll pile on too. We're going from an OL who couldn't figure out where to go much less who to block, to look up and clock whoever is in front of you. Missed blocks are what kill a run game. Zone blocking is way harder to screw up than telling your Otackle to do a figure eight with jazz hands then block the third guy to the left. Run game and D wins games. Always has, always will. We will win games. 8 at least this year. Despite our QB play. JC, NS, or whoever are capable of dinking and dunking; that's all we'll need to notch 8. If the QB has better than average results, we'll get 9, maybe 10.

There is simply no way we win less than 7 games next year, especially considering we play EIGHT of our games at home, with only four away (and only one of our "big" games--GA--is a home game for us).

I'm extremely optimistic and hope for a super surprise season, but if I had to be more "realistic" in my guesses, it would be this:

WKU: W 1-0
UCLA: W 2-0
UF: L 2-1
Ohio: W 3-1
AU: W 4-1 (Auburn's in a rebuilding mode, too, but I feel we're farther along than they are.)
UGA: W 5-1/ toss-up (Simply put, we've owned/been competitive with the Bulldogs the past few years despite the poor teams we've fielded.)
UA: 5-2
USC: 6-2 (Last year was a total fluke.)
Mem: 7-2
Miss: 7-3
Vandy: 8-3
UK: 9-3

I see a potential 8 to 9 win season with our schedule. Florida, Bama, Ole Miss may be sure-fire losses, but I think Georgia may be one we can steal away.

If we beat the ones we're supposed to, and play competitive with the ones we aren't, then this could be a 9 win year.......possibly.

I can see your point.......But let's look at the flipside; It is very disturbing to me that the VAST majority of folks have convinced themselves that Kiffin was "a good hire", when anyone with any objectivity or brains knows good and dam# well this was a horrible, horrible selection. I'm all for optimism when it is warranted....but this is nothing short of insanity. I know a "homer" is a "homer", but good God folks........this hire was probably the worst in the country (MAYBE 2nd worst, behind AU).

I just never thought I'd see the day when Volunteer fans would actually applaud the hiring of someone who couldn't even get an interview at San Jose State.

See, this is why you're a jackass and everybody hates you. There's no data yet -- Kiffin has yet to coach his first game as a collegiate head coach in college -- and yet anyone who disagrees with you is a brainless idiot. You're like my four-year-old, who think he can make something true by just yelling it louder and louder.

It is perfectly possible to construct a reasonable argument that Kiffin was a needlessly risky hire, but you don't do bother to do that. You just say that he's an idiot and a loser and anyone who disagrees with you is a moron. And then you act like a martyr because people don't want to listen to the "truth." It's not what you say; it's that you're an ass to everybody.

I would've thought you would fit right in anywhere in bama, much better than anywhere in Tennessee.

You are either a Bammer troll in disguise, putty in the hands of Bammers around you, a bandwagon hanger on, or a Fulmer homer who can't get over his dismissal.

We will be better than last year, but not world beaters this year.

Stay in Alabama and pull for Saban.

My friend, two words earlier I said "may be" which means "quite possibly". Those games "may be" sure-fire losses because those teams are exceptionally talented and had great years last year, whereas we didn't. As it stands now, those are more likely than not losses. As the season plays out I hope I'm wrong and whup all three of them.

Care to harass me more for saying what could be the truth?

I hope we will all of our games, but the fact is those three MAY BE (let me emphasize that) sure-fire losses.

Geez, no need to attack someone for no reason, dude.

Not attacking, but this just doesn't make sense. If it is a fact they are sure fire losses then there is no "maybe" about it. If they may be losses, they are not fact or sure fire.

I don't see us going 5-7 we may not win 10 games, but we are not going to go 5-7. Time will tell... Not gonna get flustered over a bammer in disquise.

vol5150 you are foolish i have a hard time believing we will win 10 games this year but 5-7 is just foolish we will compete with every team we play not just because of our defense i garuntee our offense will be better kiffin and his staff know what they r doing you being around the rival fans has gotten ur head filled with nonsense. the offense skill set isnt where it was 11 years ago but vey talented but the last couple of years there has been a lack of discipline and heart. the reason to believe why we will be good is look at the last two seasons when we played florida and alabama we were in the games in 2007 against florida we were down 20 - 28 with all the momentum in the third qrt we fumble the ball it is returned for a touchdown we r down now 35-20 we never recovered from that because with fulmer we were to soft we lacked discipline and heart i could go into detail but this is sufficient so 5150 you either have basic football knowledge and dont know how to break down situations why things happen

Then perhaps I need to clarify my meaning better or use some better word choice. Either way, no need for someone to jump on for saying me may very well lose to three of the top SEC teams on our schedule. It's not like I'm hoping we do. I'd prefer we crush everyone, but I don't want to be ridiculous in my expectations.

Are you talking about me or the OP?

Surely not me, since I predicted we win at least 8 or 9 games this year. Much more than many on here are saying.
