My Opinion of Dooley (I live in TN, LSU Alum)

He did nothing to improve La. Tech. Nothing. I'm not impressed.

Watch the next 3 years what this guy does with UT talent. Watch the next 3 years at LaTech without him, they'll play a weaker schedule and average 2-3 wins.

3-5 star players know BCS divisions have TV contracts. You take any coach at any school in any BCS division and put him at Latech for 3 years with same schedule Dooley had, he maybe goes .500 with a few lucky bounces.

You think Peterson a Boise can get the same team at Latech surrounded by Saban, Stoops, Petrino, Miles, etc...

STOP

the majority of people on here(not me) are just scared because we're not getting the big name hotshot that they all wanted. They haven't seen this guy on tv every saturday, and most have never heard of him. I for one am quite happy with this guy. The only thing that "BENEDICT" brought to UT was his daddy and an ability to recruit. Give this guy a chance. With the talent that we allready have, and the talent that's coming, the sky's the limit!! No matter what, i'm happy and STILL proud to be a tennessee vol!
GBO!!

I can pretty much speak for myself and most of Louisiana. The only reason I'm laughing at UT is because the fans are pissed they got a better head football coach with more integrity than Lane Kiffin even knows exists. Derek Dooley is a hell of a coach. LaTech is in Shreveport, the worst crime hell hole of LA, so you know its bad. He competes for recruits against Stoops, Saban, Miles, Petrino, Brown(all of TX) at a mid major school with no TV time/contracts. He took Boise St. to the wire. He beat LSU everywhere except the scoreboard. He is NOT a MEDIA WHORE. He does not need his daddy to be successful. He will handle off the field situations better than Fulmer + Kiffin combined. There is not enough crow in TN for volnation. So I say congrats on the hire, I'd swap HC for HC anyday(Not saying much but). This guy will succeed at UT. If anyone is going to a "Night in Orange" in Knoxville tomorrow, see you there!

Ummm...LA Tech is in Ruston...not Shreveport. There's not a whole lot of crime around here.

Dooley was on short list if Miles/Crowton 2011 was disaster. If anything, UT stole him
away.

I appreciate your insight on this matter. However, would the Tiger faithful really embrace Dooley in the way you say UT should? The guy is highly educated and has a solid resume, but it just seems like a strech to get really excited about this guy. If he does become our HC, I will support him and hope he does a great job. Best of luck in 2010.

thanks. i needed that. i really needed that.

can i have another?

actually, now i need a beer. or many.

^^This.

Agreed. I know next to nothing about this guy, so if the prevailing opinion is that we've got a good coach, then I'll take it.

Hell...this AU fans that booed the crap outta the Chizick (or how ever you spell his name) hiring are now singing his praises...as a matter of fact, the UT fans who said our hire made theirs look  are the ones with mud in their face.

uggh. I'm still bent outta shape though--can we just skip all the way to September '10???

I don't know anything about the guy. If you are lying about this and you are secretly laughing behind our back that's OK with me. Please continue with your sweet little lies, we need them right now. Tell me about the time he single handedly saved the world or something (that would be nice).

my bad, i'm 40 miles away. Shreveport is more well known, so I use the big city. My bad. So I will revise my initial statement, both Ruston and Shreveport are places that shouldn't exist on a map and no coach can compete there against Saban, Petrino, Miles, Stoops, etc...

What's wrong with Ruston? Oh...and it's 70 miles from Shreveport.

Everybody calm down. I think this is the perfect fit for us. He is young, smart, and has been groomed to be a coach since he was little.

I know everyone is pointing the record at LA Tech. First, his overall record of 17-20. When Saben left for bama, did he continue to ride him like Kirby Smart (someone's name that a lot of you have thrown out) or did he decide to go out on his own. He choose to go to a place that was 3-9 the year before and had not won a bowl game since Jimmie Carter was president. In his first year, he won 5 games and lost to a #20 ranked Hawaii in a multiple overtime game 45-44. He not only created a vision for LA Tech, but communicated and sold it so well that they made him the AD. In his second year, 8 wins including there first bowl win in 30 years. Also a pair of narrow defeats by 5 points or less. Then this past season, 5-7 with three defeats by 2 points or less. Additional losses to Boise State and LSU (lead at halftime).

I didn’t know that much about him before today, but I ask you to go to you tube and search for LA Tech 2009 Football preview. Listen to his interview (eyes closed), I swear, it is like you are listening to Saban.

I know, Saban. Like him or not, he is a great coach and if people on his staff are scared of DD more than any other candidate (ESPN Report), I would say we are in the headed in the right direction.

:clapping:

Welcome to the nation Derek, GATA.

I don't now if he will succeed or not. I think UT fans should just get behind him, but don't assume anything. This guy is stepping into the hardest situation in college football. As for competing with recruits. Completely incorrect. He averaged around 2.2 stars per player recruited. He was not competing with LSU, Bama, and texas on the recruiting trail.

Dooley was part of LSU 2003 NC team. I got no dog in this fight. I live in TN now, spend alot of time in Knoxville, and grew up in a LA football family. I think Dooley is a better head football coach than Lane Kiffin + Phil Fulmer combined.

Most of the LSU fans seem to think we got a good coach. His record is less than stellar but so was Kiffin's coming in. The guy is AD and HC, has a law degree so you know he is intelligent, ties to Saban, great pedigree. I'm not overly excited about the guy but willing to give him a chance. Who else could we have realistically got in this time frame? People were willing to give Kiffin a chance and now aren't willing to do the same with this hire? I think there is just a lot of fear because of the way the last coach turned out for us.

Not going to get into a pros vs cons of Ruston debate. Either way no one wins. I drive 90 through that area of LA when I have to, so I can make it to ****port in about 45 min, may be 70 miles. So you win. Or do you?:)

Great view. I have heard the same thing from several LSU friends of mine. I can also say that GA fans here in Atlanta seem to really like him too.

I think he is well worth the risk and better than Cut fo sho!

It's a done deal...GoVolsXtra reporting a plane owned by Pilot Corp. is in Ruston, LA at this moment. I just got the text on my phone from KNS but article is not up on GoVolsXtra yet.

didn't i read somewhere a few months ago that U.T. has a series scheduled with so-cal in the not too distant future? assuming the condoms aren't in ncaa prison, that kiffen hasn't bolted for the colts (the only job he would leave so-cal for), orgeron is still there and down to his old tricks, and dooley is a decent coach, i hope they whip their beach tanned asses!

Not from LA but my dad lived down there for 3 years (before he died). We used to go down there and stay during the summers and catch crab out of the ocean (fun times). I tell my wife I'm cajun and man that makes her mad (apparently staying down there for awhile doesn't make you cajun :)). One of those summers hurricane Allen came through and they pulled those (fishing/oilers) ships in off the ocean, man that was something to see.
