My Journey to Alaska and back....again (and other Army/YankeeVol life adventures)

My son will be stationed in Anchorage for 36 months. He is Air force and he does aircraft structural maintenance. It's a joint base with Army the way I understand it.
It is. Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER). That's where I was stationed. I lived on the Air Force side for 1 of the 3 years I was up there.

What's it like around there? Anything to do? How does the summer and winter work with the sun?
Plenty to do. Anchorage is just like any other major city when it comes to restaurants/stores, just not as big lol.

Plenty of fishing/hiking or other outdoor activities to do.

Definitely need blackout curtains for the summer.
