Is that, no matter how good a recruiter he is, the man still has NEVER coordinated a defense at any level.

It's a legitimate concern.

That cloud may hit you as it falls from the sky.
Take some time away from this site and enjoy the good news.

Regardless, can't you just smile for say 2 hours?

Why is everyone so pumped about this hire? Of course a position coach will take the DC position at the University of Tennessee. He might be wonderful. But there is no track record to go on, that's for sure.

Get over it, he is the man now and we will succeed or fail with him.

Time to get behind the coaches and act like good fans again.

Go Vols and Go DD

He has been a DC.

"Sunseri was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Alabama A&M from 1998-99"

from his bio

27 years of football experience. He will figure it out. He has gotta start somewhere. If Smart had left, he would be the next Bama DC. You didn't learn to walk by reading a book. You get up, fall down, and get back up.

Was a time where Saban, Monte, and other great coach's had never been coordinators. You gotta start somewhere and you never know when your going to have the next great coach.

No offense but if you can't find the positive in hiring one of Bama's best defensive coaches as our new DC who was also national recruiter of the year last season...then what will make you more positive? I think the last 3 coaches we have hired = BOOM!

His resume shows two different stints as a DC at smaller schools. Not too mention NFL experience.

Kirby Smart was a position coach before he became coordinator at Alabama and he seems to do ok

LB coaches have alot more to do with the defense and calling plays than you think. Just because that ws his title dont think hes not proficient to do it.

Neither Chavis, Fulmer or Cut were coordinators before they became coordiantors at TN. All three were position coaches when TN promoted them to Coordinator. Don't act like this unusual or somehow hasn't been done frequently at TN. Sal should make a fine DC, and will be a great recruiter.

Some people just never can enjoy anything because they are so worried about stuff that has not happened yet.

Kirby is a joke. Position coach is nothing. You have to be an A list dc before UT will hire you. Alabama got the raw end of that stupid position coach turned DC hire.
