I've read a few articles talking about Phil Fulmer coming back as AD. They all said Fulmer refused to comment, and no one on the board of trustees is willing to comment at this time. Here's what I take from it:

After the new coaching hire, whoever and whenever that happens, Hamilton is gone, and not by choice.

Fulmer returns to UT as Athletic Director, a job that I feel he'd do well in.

What are some opinions?

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. I would be happy to see Phil at the top of the Hill. I know it would make a lot of Fulmerites happy and not piss off the anti-Fulmerites too much.

I was personally a strong supporter of ousting Phil when it happened. I don't want him back as HC. But when it comes to the AD, I think Phil has what it takes. Not to mention other alternatives I have heard (Pat Summitt for AD, which is dumb, we need her to keep coaching.)

I do not think he has the business sense or the ability to evaluate coaching talent.

Agreed. Kiffin screwed us. That doesn't mean we have to do something colossally stupid now.

I would be too concerned that Phil would hire someone who he liked instead of someone who is the best choice for a HC gig and that he would meddle in the NFC's affairs.

A poster on TOS brought this up and several chimed in to say Pearl and Summit would be livid if that were to happen . No link , no conformation . Just repeating what I saw . I have no idea about the relationship between Fulmer and the others but I also think he would be a good choice for the job .

I doubt Pearl would like Fulmer being his boss.

I think it's more in line with a plan in case MH does not make a goof fit hire in a timely manner. My opinion is that they are giving MH a chance to save the sinking boat, but if the boat goes under (we lose out on recruits bigger than we should primarily due to a good fit not being hired in time) then MH is gone and replaced by Fulmer.

Could Fulmer not micromanage the football program if he was the AD? Currently nothing is preventing Fulmer from DONATING his time to UT to help raise money and be involved in the athletic department is there?

Phil needs to play a lot of golf, go fishing, buy a nice motorhome and do some travelling.
Look at what he did to the football team the last few years he coached. Do we really want him in charge of the entire athletic program. I think not.
