My feelings on Sal D

I hope he can adjust to teams who spread it out with a running QB like Mizzou and grind it out like Bama. Good tackling will solve a lot of problems in every situation.

Uhhhh, hey coach hey Bob.

Coach, if we end up facing Pittsburg in a bowlgame, will you let Sal recluse himself from calling plays?

I'll hang up and listen.

This thread is challenging the ceiling of stupidity

I wonder if there is any way Freak would institute a rule that requires passing a IQ test with a minmum score of, say at least 90 before you can have posting priviliges. :good!: Of course that would mean about half the board would be gone.

Sal is Italian and many jokes are made about how he talks

Sal is a family man above all

and SEC football is war

To hell with it

I think Sal will chose his son's over UT every time

not even a hint of a question about it

thats what italians do
thats what i do even though im irish

Let me get this straight....Your idea of loving your children is teaching them that integrity, honor and sportsmanship are worthless.:crazy:Brilliant parenting.

Sal's defense is exciting to watch. I love his approach to fundamentals and technique for that is the difference in winning and losing when you play even match opponents. The team that makes the fewest mistakes WIN!!
Dooley hit a home run in hiring Sabans defensive staff. I can't wait to see what this defense is going to become. We just saw the first game, just wait to when this Defense learns the system completely and get the experience needed to fully execute.
Go Vols

<------ This is me raising the BS flag for you. Are you truely that skewed in your thinking that you cannot seperate real life issues and sports when it comes to your kids?

I love all three of my kids to death, but i'm sorry, if they happen to play on a team that I am NOT coaching, I am going to coach my team to win.

I'll apologize later for the azz whippin I put on em. "sorry that your team sucked son, you probably should have played for your old man".

Yes I was.

It was based on how he came across on interviews, his son playing for bama, and him being an old position coach

I was wrong

But I still can't see him calling plays against his son

Don't think you'll have to worry about that. Last time I checked, DCs don't run plays against opposing Defenses.

nah

i'll call out stuff that don't umake sense to me

i think they hired the guy because he worked for saban

unquailfied otherwise???

Let me evaluate your statement that Sal is unqualified:

3-year starter for Pitt Panthers, member of NCAA-leading defense for 2/3 years, All-American LB;

1985-1992 D-line and LB coach @ Pittsburgh;
2002-2008 D-line coach for NFL Carolina Panthers under Defensive guru John Fox;
2009-2011 Asst. Head Coach/LB coach Alabama

Total: 20 years NCAA Defensive coaching experience;
7 years NFL Defensive coaching experience
(coached in Super Bowl with Panthers)

And YOU don't think he is qualified to call defensive plays at the University of Tennessee....Nothing more needs to be said...:eek:lol::salute:

But I still can't see him calling plays against his son

As mentioned, his son plays defense so he won't be coaching against him.

But quite frankly, he taught his son everything he knows and his job is on the line. As horrible as it sounds, I'd expect his father to use anything and everything he can to exploit both Alabama's defense and his son. Surely he'll give some tips to Tennessee's offense on how to exploit them. If you feel you can exploit your son in this situation, I think you have to do it. He's being paid to coach Tennessee's defense and he has an obligation to do his job.

You better believe Saban will try to exploit Sal. Granted, Sal's not his son but you get the idea. Not to mention, his son did win a championship already and if you're looking out for your own future, you're not going to further your career by throwing games to a rival regardless of your son playing for them. I think the other coaches and players would pick up on it if that's the case. At the end of the day, this is his career and it is a game. It's not like you'd be a bad parent for trying to win a game against your son. Especially when it's your career. Let's not act like his son is a 5 year old in this scenario either. His son is a big boy.

We've seen brothers go head to head in the NFL. Whether they were on the opposite side of the ball. Peyton/Eli. Tiki/Ronde. Sharper/Sharper. And if you think having a son is a big deal, ask Archie how he feels. Didn't he say he was pulling for the Saints to beat the Colts because Peyton already won a championship and the Saints hadn't? He was pulling for his old team over his own son. Sal's son has a championship too and surely he'll do what it takes to keep his job and help the kids he's coaching win.
