My current insane dream

The thing about a porsche is that you can tell if your in a "real" one as soon as you start it up. The 911 turbos and such have a sound that I can't even describe...it's pretty disappointing to get in one and miss out on that.

volinbham..I am with you on that car. I promised that I would reward myself with one after I write my last out-of-state tuition check.

Until the Cayman came along, it was considered to be about the best handling car you could buy.

An S model has plenty of power but the car is more about handling and driver communication than anything. It is sublime. Not just my opinion - 9.5 out of every 10 professional reviews you read about this car say the same thing.

I've had one for about a year. I've had faster cars but none road feel anywhere near this car.

i must agree with you.

my dad just got one about two weeks ago. he traded in a TT for it and absolutely loves it as well. he didn't get the S because he felt like he felt he was only paying more for the horsepower.

i love to drive it myself. i personally would have bought the S because in my opinion you can never have enough HP, but it was everything else that appealed to him.

Didn't you buy the 335 convert? That engine rocks.

I did, and I still love it. . .lots of fun, and the hardtop is nice in the winter. I'm actually thinking about getting the Dinan software and boost upgrade. There isn't much you can do to improve the performance of that intricate of an engine without dropping a fortune, but the Dinan deal packs a real punch, with a relatively modest price tag.

(nobody mention this little "project" to my wife )

at least the front view of the M5 is hideous, the rest of it is nice. I can just never get over the front of it.

I just like the much bigger size of the 5 series over the 3, but that's less a concern in recent years than in the past.

It's a nice car, but if you're going to get a Porsche, buy a powerful one. Don't go for the little bird with 245 horses.

Cayman S (pictured) is 295. 0 to 60 in 5.1 vs. 4.9 for the 911. Faster time around the "ring" than a 911 due to handling.

Neither is the fastest thing around but straight line speed ain't everything.

Bottomline, there are lots of great cars out there - right now, the Cayman S is only semi-impossible for me vs. completely impossible for the 911 TT, Aston Martin, etc.

that's true. i like M6 too. Also a big fan of AMG CLS 63 on the MB side. Need to make a M7, though I won't ever be able to afford it.

One note on the Aston Martin....I drove a manual the other night that had the greatest clutch of any car i've ever driven and then we got an automatic. The auto has buttons on the dash for park, drive, reverse, 2, 1, etc...it was weird. I'm always going for the manual.
