There are a lot of Vfls that love the Vols that still live in Knoxville.
They know the game and only want what is best for UT.

What if Butch and his staff held a conference call with these guys every Sunday afternoon for an hour.
It might be worth the staffs time to hear some outside perspectives in what these guys thought about the previous Saturday's game.

A group like Fulmer, Majors, Ainge, Swain, Haynesworth, Manning, Dewey Warren, Doug Matthews, etc.
Have each guy take two minutes or so to read their notes that they made during the game.
I really think this would help our offensive coaching staff.

Ok, I have on my armor, tell me how stupid this idea is.

Jones won't even admit he was wrong when he kicked an extra point when he was up by 12 points.....there's no way in hell he'd ever entertain listening to anybody else about how to run his football team. The second anybody offered a thought or suggestion, he'd respond by saying "let me educate you".

What every coach wants and needs....advice from a former coach that was fired, a former coach that hates the fired coach, 2 former players who are now FM radio guys, and a guy that is certifiably insane. Awesome idea.

It's not stupid, but it is stuff of which fairytales are made. Butch hears them in different ways, through boosters, VFL, and through social media. Butch owns this one way or the other.

But seriously..think about what you do for a living. Would you want to have a conference call with people who don't do your job every week to hear them tell you how to do your job? Probably not.

His job, his ass on the line, salary over 4 million, should not need to ask questions or get input from the peanut factory. I am sure the performance last week got his attention. Good coaches make corrections, Les Miles type coaches stick with the same old game plan. They shook off the rust, played a senior led team and got away with a win.

I agree. That's a good way to make it look like you don't know what you are doing. Even if Butch doesn't know what he's doing, he must act like he knows what he's doing:). lets not panic because we had a close game:no:. I honestly don't care how we do it as long as we win.

"Getting 1% better everyday." Butch Jones

Here's one even better ("drives" me crazy -- I'd rather Coach send the car back to the dealer -- we didn't make a good "impression" as a #9 Top 10 Week 1 / let's see about Week 2):

"“Kids judge you by your car,” Jones said via the Knoxville News Sentinel. “It’s crazy.”

On this surface, this seems a little strange. Really, judging a coach by his car? But it makes sense that Jones would do everything in his power to leave a positive impression.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Jones drives a Mercedes-Benz SLS with a sticker price of $221,580. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn bought a BMW i8 in March and gave recruit Tray Bishop a ride, a move that drew attention.

“It’s crazy, but that’s the world we live in, selling (and) trying to create those impressions,” Jones said. “So that’s very important.”

Hey, if fancy wheels lead to big wins later, why not go all out?" Saturday Down South, June 3 2016

They do that. Meet with NFL and other coaching staffs every year. They study the latest trends.

The OP mentions five guys who have been out of football for many years; Majors for almost 20 years. None of those five ever ran an offensive system like our current scheme.

Why don't you just send this to the UT Athletic Department...? Same idea...

Forget those washed up people...Fulmer, what could he possibly know about today's game.

Butch should be required to have a conference call with VN. We could certainly straighten out this coaching staff.

If you're truly trying to get better then why limit it to just former UT people? Seems getting advice from people still involved in football might be a good idea too

How about we let Butch run the program and we cheer the team on

I think the op is nervous and for good reason. We've been a roller coaster. Baaaaad start. All too familiar cappy play calling.

I know vanilla, 1st week, appy better than we know, need a passing qb, better wr

I would assume Butch does do this on some level

Probably with guys like Fulmer, Manning, Brian Kelly etc...

It's called masterminding and it's something most extremely successful people do

Or here's a thought and this is just me spitballing here, how about our coaches not ask for help from guys who have never coached?

I'll give ya fulmer and majors but hell ole phil probably likes the run right, run right, trick play time we're running left game plan that was a big part of his offense back in the day.

Lets just calm down and see what happens this week, if it's still the same ole crap then yeah maybe they need to start looking for help from others.

If you were CBJ's boss and CBJ adopted this philosophy, what would you think of CBJ? Would not be a good career move.

It's not a bad idea.

BUT...it's only a good idea if it comes from Butch himself.

He has to be the one who comes up with the idea and pursues it. Any other way, it doesn't work. Egos get involved in the wrong ways.

I suspect Butch is already reaching out for "fresh eyes" with people he trusts, both VFLs and others. Nothing like a group conference call, a lot more 1-on-1.

So I wouldn't assume that the heart of your idea isn't already happening. It probably is.

No, that's wrong. Any subordinate of mine who is driven to improve, and selfless enough to put his ego aside to do it, is doing good in my book.
