Meant to post this back in the spring but did not. With it being a bye week thought I'd throw it out there now.

Went to spring game with my son. Had a great time, He got to meet several VFL's, Peerless, Dante, Travis Stevens, etc, all were great but by far Tony Robinson was the best. My son did not know who he was I explained to him how great he was back in the day. He went down with several other kids and got his signature. Tony was very gracious. Signed several autographs and gave my son his wrist bands. While he was signing he said I want your all's autographs and jumped up on the wall and asked the kids to sign the back of his shirt....Well, after he won the MVP for the flag football game at halftime he came back to the kids and asked who signed his shirt first. A young boy spoke up and said I did, Tony said you were good luck I am going to give you my trophy. Needless to say the kid was blown away. Tony leaves and goes thru the tunnel then comes back in a few minutes appologizing that he cannot keep the trophy and Tony has to give it back to the school. Kid and his parents understand and hand back the trophy. Tony says he will think of something. Comes back out in a few minutes and give the kid his cleats from the game. You should have seen the smile on that kid's face, I think that had to be one of his best days ever at Neyland. He had them hanging around his neck walking out of the stadium. First thing my son wanted to do when we got home was see video of Tony playing. We found a few highlights but there are not many from the 80's on youtube....anyway, couldn't get over how great Tony was with all the kids, figured volnation needed to know

Many thanks, eVol. Many of us saw Tony, Dale Jones & Co. eviscerate Auburn and the great Bo Jackson in Neyland stadium and make the cover of SI the following week, only to, later, go to Legion Field and sadly, see his Vol career come to an end on what many of us thought was an illegal, "dirty" hit by two Alabama defensive lineman. Wife and I were at both games. One of my favorite Vols of all time, Tony, later made some bad decisions, for which he has, long since, paid his debt to society. Thankful that he has put that behind him and is prospering. I have never seen any Vol QB that had such a perfect touch on his passes; Peyton included. Bless you, eVOL for sharing this with Vol Faithful....

Awesome story! My first memories of UT football are the 1985 O&W game, killing Barn that year, then seeing Tony go down and the Dale Jones interception against Bama. I was 10, and an instant life long Vol. Glad your boy has memories that will last a lifetime and forever be the moments that made him a VFL.

Did you stay for the fights after the game at the Tide n' Tiger? The cops erected a makeshift jail by tying ropes to trees and hanging sheets over them. As fast as they were rounding us up and throwing us in their pokey, we were crawling out from under the sheets and rejoining the brawl. :eek:lol:

just a great memory of how Auburn and Bo came in with all the hype and T. ROB stole the day and BO left the game early. Dale and the boys just didn't play as nice as he was used to I guess.

Thanks for posting. Tony is one of my favorite all-time Vols.

He made the cover of Sports Illustrated. I think the title was "The Tennessee Waltz"

The last time I clocked a guy was at the Florida game when John Reaves was their AA QB and Carlos Alvarez was their AA WR. It was in Neyland and the VOLS steam-rolled the favored Gators 30something to 7. Got pats on the back all the way to the aisle....
Auburn and Alabama in '85, I had my sweet wifey to fend off any ill will... HA!!!

Awesome story. Tony is one of my favorites. I shook his hand in congratulations after a close win over Georgia Tech back in '84...his hand DWARFED mine. And I was in college at the time as well! lol!
