Is that we are becoming Colorado. Their best days are long gone, as ours are. Something big needs to happen soon, or we may be.

At the beginning of the season, I wanted to realistically see a few things from this program.

(1) Better run game. DONE!!

(2) Be ranked in the top #25 for at least one week. DONE!!!

(3) Post a winning record for the regular season.

YET TO BE DETERMINED!

(4) Get to a bowl game! YET TO BE DETERMINED!!

(5) Win the bowl game. YET TO BE DETERMINED!!!!

In 2013, I want to see:

(1) Top #25 for at least 1/2 of the season.

(2) Beat at least one team in the top #25.

(3) Have 10 players drafted in the N.F.L. draft.

(4) Have at least one player drafted in the first round.

(5) Have at least 8 wins in the regular season.

(6) Make it to a bowl game.

(7) Win the bowl game.

Don't really see how you can compare the history and tradition at Tennessee with a few decent seasons that Colorado had....but you are right that we need something big to happen before we fall even further into irrelevance. All it takes is one big win and you atart getting noticed again. We had that after the NC State game, all we needed was to keep the momentum going. When you have the moment, and then turn right around and regress like we did, its right back into the black hole of irrelevance. Our time will come again, and im hoping sooner or later. Maybe we will find a way to beat USC and win out and salvage this season, maybe not, maybe Dooley is fired and Gruden is brought in....eventually Tennessee will be back where we belong.

UT will never be Colorado, people in the south care way too much about college football.

When you have a bunch of people thinking about football 24/7 365 days a year and combine that massive support with best tradition in the SEC & top facilities in the nation...good things are bound to happen.

NC State wasn't a huge win man it was an ok win.

I get what you're saying, but I disagree with the comparison to Colorado. Tennessee's low swing, IMO, mirrors those of USC before Carroll, Bama before Saban, Oklahoma before Stoops, just to name a few. Tennessee is a big time program with big time boosters and will not stay down forever. When billionaires who love their college football get sick and tired of getting embarrassed get motivated, they will step it up. I believe they are motivated.

I'm not comparing program history, but they equal our NC over the past 30 years. Just that they were in the national spotlight for a few years, as we were. McCartney compares to PF with his style and NC. Neuheisel was our Kiffin. Then they hired sure things in Barnett and Hawkins, who combined to win @ 40% of their games. They went from having heisman trophy and nfl talent, to off the map and have been losing for years.

Really? This is just ridiculous. We have multiple first round pick picks on this team. We just havnt played well in big games. IMO that's just poor coaching. Was bama Colorado a few seasons ago? They had a very similar bad stretch but like us are an elite program with great facilities and tradition. We'll be back. It's all cyclical.

Never said NC State was a huge win, what i was saying is that we had people talking about Tennessee again....had some excitement around the program....you know, Gameday coming to Knoxville, being ranked in the Top 25 again........

2 things.

1.Remember when the female placekicker was raped? They still haven't recovered from that.

2. It's becoming more and more difficult to recruit to cold weather universities. It sounds stupid, but year after year the big recruit are going to warm weather schools. Recruits don't have to play locally anymore.

edit: Also, the admins have de-emphasized athletics.

I'm discussing football programs, and if you think UT can jump right in and start competing with multiple top 10 teams each year with the recruiting disadvantages we have without a blockbuster HC reeling them in, you are dreaming.

That's where I think you're incorrect. Tennessee football has had more than a few years in the national spolight. Colorado had a good run, but in comparison Tennessee is a way more established program. A comparison like this has to include a program's history, and Tennessee has it. I would venture into comparing the size of a program, but I wouldn't really know how to quantify it. I will say this though, Tennessee's fans travel better(larger crowds) and those that support Tennessee's program seem to invest more money. I know this is kind of off your intitial premise, but I am just trying to distinguish how Tennessee is on a different level than Colorado, as far as programs go. We compare better to the Oklahomas, Bamas, and USCs.

In a couple years UT is going to have a significant drop in its number of NFL players. Just another thing to consider when you're looking at best days being behind us. We really need to start churning out some more NFL talent for coaches to point to in recruiting.

The Fosters, EB, D-mo, Mayo, Stocker and Meachem are the only young players I can think of who will stick for a bit. Haralson and Greer should have a few more productive years, I guess.

I doubt Montario lasts long. Not sure what's going on with Dan Williams or McClendon. Peyton, Franklin, Wells are all getting old. Clifton and Haynesworth are done.

Sure I'm forgetting others, but the lack of talent we've put into the draft the past 7 years or so is alarming and explains a lot.

I agree we need a blockbuster hire to get back to being a perennial top 10 but who doesn't. Just saying, Colorado couldn't get a blockbuster hire and even if they did still wouldn't become a top ten. We do have that potential.

today's recruits only see TN as a team in the lower half of the SEC. It matters not what our history is, and the 90's were the best years. People need to realize our best was almost 15 years ago and no player in college is old enough to remember.
My main point is that they fell off the map, and we are on the edge. I think some fans, like the one above saying the comparison is ridiculous, are in denial of where we are and what can happen unless the tide is turned soon.

Colorado had a blockbuster hire and the hottest name in the business when Hawkins left Boise for Colorado

I think we have some good future players right now. Bray, hunter, cp, and at least 2 lineman on offense. On d we got Aj,Magitt,McCullers. Coleman or Randolph potentially depending on development. Not too bad
