My attempt at a realist outlook on O&W

To touch on the DL/OL point:
I am friends with a few members of the D and I was told after the game that they were being held back to an extent for health/safety and film secrecy reasons. The OL has definitely improved, but I can accurately say that the D wasn't full-steam-ahead and were holding back just a tad.

That's good to know.. ty :hi:

Its tough to really get a good feel for a team from the spring game. For every positive on one side of the ball there is a negative that the other side let it happen. I do think they looked much better this spring than last. At times the last couple of years it felt like we were going into a gun fight with a knife. This year I think we have a gun too. Cautiously optimistic.

think we can compete with the top SEC teams for 4 quarters this year instead of two?

IMO I think we will be a 4 quarter team this year, we actually have some depth this year. So we can actually substitute and keep guys fresh.

Also the players have addressed that question in a couple different interviews and they know it was a problem. After you know something is a problem you can work to fix it.

They also played hard for the entire game on Sat. I know its just a scrimmage, but that makes it even easier to start taking it easy towards end of game.

Our defense also surprised me with how hard and fast they were playing, I think a little of CSS's attitude may have rubbed off on them.

As others have stated our guys actually look the part of SEC players now.. S&C staff has done a fantastic job of getting these guys built up.

I cant promise you how many wins we get.. but I can promise that from what I have seen we will not be an easy win for any team this year.

I thought the 1 offense looked bad. Almost worse than last year. Honestly if Hunter gets hurt again it will be a long season. Running game looked good becasue of the poor tackling like last year. Secondary did look some inproved but against what? Do we have anyone that would scare a D besides Hunter? Flame away but Bray isnt a very good QB. Who has he ever beaten? Cincy? Are we going back to the sending everybody deep and throw dinks and dunks? D Line not very good against a bad O line. Im sorry but I just didnt see any improvement. I will be around at seasons end so everyone can tell me you told me so but I really dont see 5 wins on the schedule.

I think the 1s on O didn't give their all. Da'Rick could have had two TDs, but he wasn't pushing. Bray didn't give his best effort, either. Perhaps they didn't treat it as seriously as a real game, but IDT they played badly. With full effort, I think the white team would have taken it fairly easily. Bray's cavalier attitude is a bit worrisome, but I think he has the tools and will step it up this fall.

I see 8 wins on this sked-- not easy wins, but games we should take. If we step up our game and play to win, I think we could be a 9-win team. I feel positive about Sunseri and where he's taking the D. I wish I felt the same about Chaney... and STs. JMO.

Wow, all the troll opinions from the last year rolled into one post.

Amazing.

Im not a troll. I still have my season tix and love the orange but that was my opinion. Everyone really is hoping it will get better. I would really like to know what it the big difference that you all seen that I missed. The whole offense was still the same as last year especially on that last drive. They give up a 40+ yard draw right up the gut to lose to the d. How may turnovers and how many missed tackles. Not putting forth effort is why I say we are the same if not worse. I see a post talking about 10-2. Now that is orange colored glasses. Just saying NC St - Loss GA St win UF loss Akron win UGA loss Miss St 50/50 Bama loss SC loss Troy win Missou loss Vandy Loss KY (they will have a qb this year loss. Before you start we should have lost to Vandy at home last year and lost to a KY team without a QB. This is just the facts. How can you say now that we will be KY this year? We lost to a team was not very good a very short handed. What if they give the effort they gave this last year?

The guys who make me feel better are those like Downs and Bohannon who weren't talked about that much until the end.

It sounds like ALOT of guys who didn't get press made great progress. That tends to validate the new staff also.

Took me awhile to finish your post because I started laughing so hard when I saw you predicted a loss to vandy, but then started laughing even harder when I saw you predicting a loss to kentucky. That is some pure comedic gold right there

I just wonder how many other springs games you have watched, and how closely you scrutinized the other SEC teams.

I have happened to watch 4 other SEC teams and NCst..none of them looked better then us in the least bit. Watched a little bama and they are still scary, but I think we have a real chance to hit double digit wins this year.

And as far as last year goes, I am tired of hearing about it from all the negavols around here. Lets pick on the games when we didn't have our star WR and our QB was injured. Forget how we looked in the Cincy game, everyone wants to just discount that game when we handed them one of only 3 losses on the season

Not to mention.. we demolish cincy, then they turn around and demolish NCst 44-14, but then NCst is going to come in and beat us?

That is a pretty big jump even for someone looking for the worst.. A beats B 45-23.. B Beats C 44-14, Then somehow C is going to beat A? :eek:lol:

I think number 77 will be a very good player on the line. He may not start this year but I hope he gets a little back up time in. He had some good blocks in the run game Saturday and I hope he has a good career for us. Hope that nobody gets hurt, but I would like to see him in a game.

I have not seen the O&W game. It was not streamed. We couldn't get it or the replays in MO.

In earlier practice clips, I didn't notice Kerbyson that much. But Crowder and Posey were to me noticably more aggressive than some of the guys ahead of them. Hopefully that pushes the starters or else the 3 get their shots.

True. And UT should still beat NCSU and Mizzou badly this year.

Agree. Maybe not badly but it should be a win, nonetheless.

People can get unrealistic expectation when they throw out numbers such as scores, when a majority of the time, the games are completely different. You can't use scores to suggest how comparable two teams are.
