Too many damn conference teams. Go back to 10! Play 9 other teams and 3 OOC.

Just a bit of history. Auburn refused to move to the east, unless Bama was their cross divisional rivalry every year. Both Bama and UT admins would not accept this scenario, insisting their rivalry was most important. As a Bama fan I agree that UT is our most traditional rival. Both are the flagship programs for neighboring states. I would love to be able to sit down with the General and Bear and get their opinion on the matter.

I work in Tn and remember the hayul I caught, when you had your run. I would be less than honest, if I didn't admit that I have enjoyed some payback, however, I for one, would love to see the rivalry get back to where it should be. Given time, I have no doubt that CJP will bring you back. Out recruiting Kirby and Dabo is where it starts. Sure, getting some from Saban will happen, also, but Dabo is plucking Tn and Ga is where you have, traditionally, done your best recruiting. Btw, I pull for UT, except when they are playing Bama.

Never not gonna be on our schedule. Add a day to that never while Coach Fulmer has a say.

I would be very disappointed if we drop the TSIO. If we are going to cut and run, might as well join the ACC and be done with it.
If you think we were a laughingstock nationally under Butch, wait until we take our ball and go home.
The rivalry will swing back around, it has always been streaky.

Name the seasons where Tennessee losing to Alabama cost Tennessee something and I’ll hang up and listen.

1992 is all I can come up with.

This subject comes up every year and for the most part Tennessee hasn’t even been in contention.

As horrible as the Alabama situation is, losing 13 of 14 to Florida is a much bigger issue.

I only take joy in this because the “rivalry game” is the only reason Auburn is in the West and Missouri is in the East. They should switch and all would be right with the world, but that’s not going to happen because of the TSIO.

Another poster had it right, you can’t on the one hand puff your chest out that “We are Tennessee” and then complain about having to play a game which supposedly means more than any game on the schedule.

I remember when this board was offended by Les Miles saying it wasn’t fair that he had to play Florida while Alabama gets Tennessee. Meanwhile, some argue the same thing every year

This is a good point. However, the BCS and now the playoff has changed college football forever, and at some point it’ll keep expanding. Probably the fairest thing would be to either get rid of the divisions or get rid of permanent games that are cross divisional. Not saying that I necessarily want this, but the whole landscape has changed and some traditional games have hurt some teams worse than others.

Sounds like a weak, loser mentality being afraid to play our traditional Alabama every year. We need to step up our game and beat them simple as that.

I would understand the argument more if playing Alabama was ruining Tennessee’s season or if Tennessee was denied winning the East repeatedly because of the Alabama game.

But that hasn’t been the case.

Beat Florida and Georgia regularly and playing Alabama won’t be nearly the issue that it is now

It's honestly never been about a level playing field, that is almost impossible to achieve. We have always been thought of as the yin to the tides yang. We were the leagues best and only chance at beating them some years. Don't worry it will cycle back to us very soon. Go Vols!

Congresswoman I hate to agree with you, but that needs to start happening on a regular basis.

I continue to say we are stupid to play them every year. We will get them in the SEC Championship anyway, if we ever get that good. No I’m not afraid to play them, no you don’t just get better and beat them, no traditional rivals don’t need to stay that way for good. No your manhood is not challenged because you believe there is a better, smarter way to approach the schedule. This game puts us at a disadvantage, both in divisional standings, bowl standing and recruiting. Steve Spurrier was right about traditional rivals, you simply make it easier for you divisional opponents. All you trolls that want to call everyone that believes this as some kind of traitor, I say fake news! If that had been Ole Miss yesterday and we were 4-3 coming out of the game the season already looks better. Rant over!

Counter point - You're wrong.

You wanna be considered an elite program? Well you gotta play the best and not ducking rivals. No one would complain if it was UT handing out the beatings.

Says the guy that plays miss st every year and no one out of conference ever.

Again, how is it helping us?

Not often I agree with gator boy, but when was the last time Bama kept us out of Atlanta? Unless I'm mistaken, SC in 16 is the most recent that kept us from it, that's if you don't blame ourselves.

Beat them next year and no one will care. Butch came within 5 points of it, so don't tell me it can't be done. Pfft.

Even Butch said we need to make the game matter again.
